Gaal is a guy, not a pregnant girl. The guy that she's in love with doesnt even exist, so thats not how Hari dies. Salvor is a guy. There is no cloning in the book so the Day/Dawn/Dusk thing is made up, which means almost all their side stories are made up.

Good lord, who green lit those ideas?

Non-book rider. The show is terrible, but I am a sucker for sci-fi, so I push on.

Salvor's arch is especially bad.

I guess my disappointment springs from the wait. I read these books nearly 25-30 years ago. My expectations were very high . . .

I haven’t watched beyond the second episode. The other Apple series, Invasion, is just as disappointing.

Hell, I like the show.

I’m a Foundation Hodor, though. I get that I’m not getting straight Asimov.

But I just don’t see where this show falls horribly flat. Maybe some things and characters work better than others, but overall, I enjoy it.

I think this concept in general is interesting, it's befitting the hubris of a "galactic emperor".

But it doesn't match the source material, so I fully understand why it would be a turnoff for readers. Perhaps it should have been left for a different story.

I think it’s just a budget issue. I haven’t read the books, but there seems to be a lot of time covered and a new actor playing Empire after each time jump would be expensive and confusing to the audience.

I'm caught up now. Just not really that good of a show. Not mad about it not being like Foundation, its just not a good show. If they would focus on the Cleons and their story and just cut out the rest of it, I think it would be a lot better. They are the only interesting characters. I will be enjoying that part and then it will switch to Terminus and Gaal and all that and I am just sad.

I'm surprised to learn Empire aren't clones in the books. The Holy Trinity metaphor is one of the more interesting elements of the story. Maybe the show isn't living up to reader's expectations. But stand alone, I think it's a well written show.

I'm really enjoying the show. It's vastly different then all of the simple minded drivel Netflix puts out nowadays

Just watched both of these and was also disappointed. I must have a thing for crappy sci-fi

Haven't watched this yet, but that criticism would be valid for Amazon's Rings of Power. And, I think fear of confusing the audience/ having a disconnect because of not having continuous characters, is a bigger issue than budget.

They are really bad at sci-fi, See might be the one I’m most disappointed in. The casting and the writing is atrocious.

If they would just get rid of the whole Gaal Salvor arc, it would be pretty good. The story takes place across thousands of years and they needed something to tie it together for TV. And they are doing an awful job with awful characters played by horrifically bad actors to do that.

Apple, just focus on the Cleons, their conflict with the Foundations, and the fall and it would be pretty darn good.

I find the Cleons waaaaaaaaaay more interesting than practically anything else in the show.

More of them. Less of everything else.

Still a good weekly watch. Not a lot going on right now on TV.

I wasn’t a book reader, but disappointed to hear it’s way off.

I have been enjoying the show though. It’s not amazing by any means, but I find the story interesting and the production good.

Did you watch Silo yet?

I am assuming that the second season of Foundation has started?

I dont understand why you would take the source material from one of the greatest sci fi series of all time, and just decide to pretty much ignore everything in it except for character names.

Super late to the show but I've mostly enjoyed. Really good acting, writing & FX, but I confess to having zero knowledge of the source material. Just starting S2 & as an aide, I started listening to the Foundation Podcast. I wanted to revisit eps I had already seen and figured those who worked on the show would help answer some questions.

Sorta wish I hadn't. The producer flat out admits who was race swapped, gender swapped and why. While I really do enjoy Gaal & Salvor, the 'current day' politics from those involved at making the show is just terrible.

Despite all their flaws, they still manage, imo, to make a decent variation of what (they say) differed from the source. Eg, The Invictus. The Flying Dutchman type aspect of this ship worked really well.

Going to plow through S2 in a few days.
