I still collect, specifically steelbooks. Walmart is starting to get boxes of steelbooks from best buy and putting them in their $5 bins. Got all these last night for $35.

Oh yeah.

Love getting them with digital copies too.

I had stopped mostly yrs ago but still held on to what I had. No extensive library but a small bookcase’s worth.

Now when something I really like comes out I’m likely going to buy a copy.

Even digital purchases can be altered or wiped outright with zero compensation. Not so when you own physical media.

I don't collect it, but I don't hesitate to buy a film on DVD/Blueray if I find that no one is streaming it.

And there are collections (Jonny Quest, Planet of the Apes, Kubrick) that I have on DVD to make sure that I can stay ahead of the censors.

I really got back into buying DVDs and CDs during COVID. Those steelbooks look sharp, but I'm more likely to get stuff at thrift stores or 2nd & Charles.

Hell yeah! Probably have more than 500 DVDs in my collection at this point. I'm constantly upgrading old dvds in the collection with new 4K releases, adding new 4K releases to the collection, etc. The cycle never ends!

Those are some great finds!

I buy mostly music on physical media, haven't really expanded my movie collection lately.

I stopped adding physical media several years ago and completed converting all the physical media I had to digital a little over a year ago

Now is probably the time to do it since physical media isn’t a hot item. Like many kids I bought a ton of comics back in the 80’s thinking they’d be collectibles. Some turned out to be but most still aren’t worth a lot.

That #1 Alpha Flight doesn’t hold a lot of value when millions of other kids bought it and have them bagged and boarded right now like I do.

Would love to see that!

I don't have many steelbooks, but I think my favorite movie/edition in my collection is the Midsommar Director's Cut: Collector's Edition. Probably the best looking 4K movie I've ever seen and the packaging and extras are really cool.

At some point I probably need to buy the collector's edition of The Lighthouse that the A24 store sells as well.

I still get 4K UHD discs for movies I love. The difference in quality (both audio and video) from streaming is unreal

I'll collect steelbooks where available as well

I'm in this boat. I am actually about to donate a couple hundred DVDs to the local library. Taking up space.

I sold a few dvds and vhs on ebay until some guy "bought" a dvd but never paid, so I never sent. I think it messed up my account and I haven't bothered to fix it. Would like to get rid of probably all of my dvds and a bunch of my cds.

I have a ton of dvds and keep them, along with spare dvd players. Why? You say? Because I am sure one day in our lifetimes, streaming and digital will evaporate, or else become so insanely expensive as to be grossly unaffordable. My favorite movies waiting in my big dvd cabinet will then be like gold to me.

it helped a lot when external HD prices dropped so much and one of the things I had to do over was I'd orginally started converting my audio CDs to .mp3, but then I discovered FLAC and had to start over with that format instead.

This is pretty much the only reason I would buy a DVD/Blu Ray of something these days.

Anybody want to buy a Criterion Bluray Royal Tennenbaums and/or Rushmore? I accidentally ordered then when I already owned them. They're unopened.
