With the timeline that was afforded the last season, they had to end things as quickly as possible.

You can’t prolong a battle when it has to fit within a one hour long episode.

I’ve learned not to expect anything from this show anymore. It makes you less angry I promise you.

YUP. That's the biggest problem. This season has been so rushed. This show never felt rushed. Sometimes it was painstakingly slow and detailed. Now it's suddenly rushed and chopped up.

Why?

Was HBO running out of money?

I thought they had 20K men. There seemed to be maybe a few thousand because most all the soldiers in the city were Lannister

If things were being done at the proper pace you would have probably seen/heard more from them.

Nothing is being developed anymore, they just trying to resolve all major outstanding plot points at warp speed.

Why do people keep saying this like it's a surprise when we've know for a long time it would be 6 episodes?

Just because it isn’t a surprise doesn’t mean it’s not true

Especially given that HBO offered D&D more episodes but they declined

Because D&D chose shorter seasons when HBO was ready to green light more episodes and seasons. They chose poorly.

Drogon might have gotten sleepy after eating all that fire roasted elephant and not obeyed Dany’s genocidal impulses.
