The wife and friends were over last night, and they chose to watch this movie. I sat through it, because I have been surprised by RomComs in the past. Sure I dislike the vast majority of them, but I figured I would give this a chance.

Oh boy. It was not good. There are some decent elements in it that were entertaining enough, so it wasn't a terrible movie; however, it definitely is not a good one.

Glen Powel was actually quite good in it though. I am unfamiliar with him for the most part, so I was surprised at how engaging he was on screen. The supporting cast was very hit and miss.

Sydney Sweeney though? Wow. She is not a good actress at all. The wife and I both agreed that there were a few scenes that felt like we were watching The Room. The dialogue and acting were that bad. Her line delivery is incredibly awkward, and she speaks with a weird slur that is very off-putting. I have no idea how she landed a lead role like this.

The writing was pretty predictable. Jokes were forced and fell flat most of the time, but there were a few that brought out some laughs. The character development and flow wasn't too bad. Overall it was an interesting concept that just didn't stick the landing.

While it's not the worst RomCom that I have seen, it's definitely in the middle of the pack. It's standard RC movie that will appease the Hallmark crowds and that's about it. I wish we had watched something else instead

Thank you.

There is another thread on here saying it was pretty good, but I disagree. I thought it was bad. I didn't care for the leads whatsoever. Neither were likable to me. Also, this movie made sure to check all the boxes.

I sat through the entire movie, but didn't care for it at all. It had maybe 1 or 2 funny moments. I have no desire to ever watch it again.

I prefer RomComs of the early 2000s and 90s.

R rated RomCom with Sydney Sweeny makes over 200 million at the box-office.

Meanwhile. Madame Web (4000+ screens) struggles to make 77 million.

Only You will make more domestically than Madame Web does Worldwide.

I remember seeing that one the other day, which is why I gave in and agreed last night. I tried finding it before starting this thread, but search did not yield any results.

You know, the Queen of Rom-Coms (Meg Ryan) When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You've got Mail...never showed skin.

Maybe she had a terrible body?

Sydney Sweeney is better than bad. She was solid, probably above average, in The White Lotus

And with montañas like hers, that's all she needs.

Other than Sydney Sweeney being hot, this movie was pretty terrible as far as rom cons go. There was hardly any rom and even less com.

Sweeney isn’t a good comedic actress. In fact, she was awful in this movie which is a shame because she was very good in Immaculate. She just isn’t a rom com actress and that’s fine.

I think absolutely 0 of your criticisms are invalid.

But you gloss over one thing:

Romcoms have been mostly dead for 10 years. While they’re not going to be award bait, it’s nice to see people falling in love and being reminded of the pitfalls, heartache, and twinges of love in the early stages.

Been married 20+ years and I still enjoy seeing people fall in love.

It’s a small and somewhat frivolous but needed category of movies needed (like raunchy comedies) that were a victim of Covid and Political correctness in the last 25 years.

Palm Springs, Lost City, and Shotgun Wedding are just about the only ones I can name since Covid.

ETA: missed this

This had female nudity, sex, penis, and lesbians in it. Not the Hallmark Crowd’s type.

You replied to me, not the OP buddy.

I got laid for watching this one.

If OP played it right, he got laid a lot.

Movie was fun. The supporting actors did a pretty good job to carry Sydney’s less than stellar acting. I didn’t have a problem with the plot considering what the movie was. I’d be down for a sequel.

Sydney Sweeney was obviously great in it.

Here she is being great in it.
