I did and.....let's say I'm already worried here. John Larroquette was able to reprise his role of Dan Fielding with relative ease and predictably enough, that was one of the few bright spots. The characters lack the charm of the original run and the acting is unimpressive. I really, really wanted this to be good, but I guess I should have known better.

Gotta give it more than 2 episodes for them to find their groove. Most shows are a little off at the start. Im gonna give it a shot I enjoyed it

It occurs to me that the original run had many of the same problems. After tweaking casting after season 1, it improved. Further tweaking after season 2 brought even further improvements until the show became a classic. I doubt networks have this kind of patience anymore, but we shall see.

It would be a hell of a twist if they brought back the characters from the original who were jettisoned after Season 1, particularly the black female attorney and the original female clerk.

There is a reason most shows that debut in January don't end up making it

Didn’t a few of the cast pass away in the time since the show ended?

That's fair - the original series didn't hit its true stride until season 3's cast.

I hope it doesn't take this version that long to hit its stride though.

Obviously Harry (Anderson), Christine (Post), and Mac (Robinson) have all passed. Only some of those early folks that were replaced during the run (the pilot PD, Gail Strickland's Sheila Gardner, and S2 PD, Ellen Foley's Billie Young) along with the final bailiffs (Warfield and Moll) are still with us.

Other than New Orleans native John Larroquette, of course.

ETA: For those unfamiliar with Ellen Foley other than this show, she was the female singer on Meatloaf's monster album, Bat out of Hell. She does NOT appear in the video because she wanted to pursue more acting and, in particular a solo singing career of her own, so she was replaced for the music videos and tour with longtime Steinman collaborator, Karla Devito who would go on to marry Robby Benson.

Those still alive:

John Larroquette (Dan - obviously)
Richard Moll (Bull)
Marsha Warfield (Roz)
Karen Austin (original clerk, has not been in acting since 2015)
Ellen Foley (public defender in season 2)

Everyone else has passed away.

I forgot Austin, thanks.

ETA: And Gail Strickland, the pilot PD, hasn't acted since 2008 and is in her mid/late 70s if not already 80 at this point.

Spoiler: It won't make it to 3 seasons

A lot of 80s movies had women who were way hotter than who you'd expect their husbands to be. Partly because of John Candy, but that happened a lot in comedies - comedic actors weren't the "hot" guys leading romantic movies or action movies.

It's literally a trope:

Ugly Guy, Hot Wife

And now back to Mary and John in the studio.

You might want to look up how much air traffic controllers make. It's a super stressful job and has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. There's a reason Falzone from Pushing Tin drove a big shiny red Cadillac.

Anyway, I could see a funny guy like Candy getting a hot wife, so long as he had a halfway decent job.

It wasn’t funny to me at all

That wasn’t Dan Fielding, but we all knew they couldn’t really bring that character back.
