The show probably could have been tGOAT had they kept it as a contained story told within 4-5 seasons. It just became changing one "hopeless" situation for another with no real end in sight.
I watched the first season and liked it enough to watch the first few episodes of season 2, but then I read ahead on into season 4 and found what you said to be the case. You can’t expect people to be drug through endless piles of shite over and over with no clear end in sight. There has to be big story progression, not just character arcs and season arcs. shite is stale. Surprised the show lasted this long

Well I just confirmed that. That was a pleasant surprise.

Spoilers
I haven't watched season 8 (very bored by the show and not entertained at all) but I have read the episodes recap because I want to know what happens.
So, basically there continued to be nothing that moved the main plot along, besides a glimpse of a helicopter? It was just fighting between both sides? One side wins then the other. They have multiple chances to kill Neagen, but then don't?
Glad I didn't watch that crap

From what I've read it sounds like the stars of this show weren't be treated equally when it came to pay so the writers just started cutting screen time as to not have to pay more. The whole Chandler Riggs deal was done because he was about to turn 18, his contract was up and would most definitely require more money. AMC had made bank on this show and have paid their big talent shite comparatively. Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus were in almost every episode of TWD since it's inception. Then, they both restructured their contracts 2 years ago and they started disappearing from the show. Lincoln and Reedus were making $92k & $80K per episode for 6 years when the show was at it's peak. AMC was getting away with murder. Then they started paying them over $500k per episode and even thhe started disappearing. AMC fricked this show up.

I was in a critical writing class in college when the premier of season 2 started and I choose to review the episode. I still remember writing something along the line of “despite some moments of being insulting to its audience, the priemere of season 2 looks to be a positive improvement over season one of it can keep up its momentum through the season.”
Hah

So she kills Rick, somebody kills her ... I'm good with it.

Hmmm, you think they might be regretting killing off Carl much now?
They screwed that actor. I think the rest of the cast took note.

They should use this as an excuse to totally revamp the show. Do something bold and switch it up.

Considering the last scene from last season, that is gonna be tough to follow through on what they foreshadowed.

Bet Maggie dies while birthing.
Wait... She is still pregnant right?

I think the baby is born. Her and Jesus have plans.

So are they just going to ditch the whole "Maggie gets revenge on Rick" plot, or is episode 1 of the new season going to open with a Rick/Maggie murder-suicide? Guess that Glen baby's not gettin' born.
