I agree. It’s probably my favorite mini-series but it lost steam at the end. Which is kind of understandable because it just shows the end of his life.
Remarkable show. The theme song is a part of my 4th of July playlist. Giamatti is in the running for best actor to never win an Oscar IMO.

What’s really sad is that they probably will never make any more period pieces about the founding fathers because they owned slaves.

John Adams did not own slaves and was an abolitionist.

Seen bits and pieces but have not fully committed to this myself.
That will be changing.

As if that matters.

I just noticed that the guy who plays Ben Franklin in the series also played Gen Cornwallis in the Patriot. Tom Wilkinson played those roles perfectly.

The first two episodes are on point and some of the best television HBO has ever produced. Episode three and four are both a step down from the first two episodes, but episodes five and six are very solid.

When you have people in charge of a prominent university stating that the Constitution is a device that supports white supremacy, nothing would surprise me.

All of the casting was top notch. Wilkinson, Giamatti, Dillane, and Sewel are all on point. But my favorite is David Morse as Washington.
His demeanor and presence(height), just excellent.

Actually I thought they could have done a better job of the Adams and Jefferson letters. If you have not I would recommend reading the book. The death of his wife and daughter was very powerful.

I usually really like Dillane, but I just didn't really care for him as Jefferson, maybe that's just not how I imagined him to be. They couldn't have found a better Washington or Franklin than Morse and Wilkinson

Really?
Jefferson apparently disliked public speaking. As such, I'd imagine him to be a bit reserved and introverted. The way he was reacting when Adams and Franklin were going through the draft of the Declaration was well done I thought.

I watch this miniseries every year during the days leading up to Independence Day. I agree with everyone that it should be a required watch in schools. The kids today dont give a rats arse about the founders but if they would only get to know the founders and the time period, I think they would love it. For example, my niece is 23 and she hates history but I got her to watch it and now she is fascinated with the founders, who they were, what they stood for and that they put their necks on the line for all of us. Those were some damn brave and honorable men!

If you are willing to pay a few bucks without subscribing to to HBO, Amazon tv offers to buy it for $10.00 or you can rent each episode. I bought it so I can watch it every year.
ENJOY!!

ENJOY!!

Another guilty pleasure is the 1776 musical.
This is currently on the MovieLand TV Channel on Roku. When I was in the 5th grade they loaded us up to see this movie in the theater as a field trip. They still should

Ben Franklin playing chess in the bathtub with that French tart while in Paris was my favorite part.
It’s hard for me to appreciate what Paris must have been like as compared to everywhere else on earth at the time.
Great show. Also enjoy Adam’s contempt for Alexander Hamilton.
