After more time to think I feel like the toughest pill to swallow for me is the characters having distinct personalities. In the books they're so robotic. They're called by their profession.

Loved it. The jump scare stuff was a bit annoying, but I guess its part of the horror.

So many questions about that world they were in. I hope there is a sequal.

It performed horribly at the box office. Would be a real shame if there wasn't a sequel since it's based on the first book of a trilogy.

Although I enjoyed the plot, I was just not into the acting. I'm sure I will give it another try sometime.

Jennifer Jason Leigh was the only actor that rubbed me the wrong way.

Just got out.

I enjoyed it overall.

The plot is simplistic. I feel that it is trying to have you look at it through a “prism” in order to give the movie some “depth”.

IMO, it was a very simple movie. There is no depth beyond the plot. There really is nothing to discuss or consider. The movie just “is”. I’ll admit, I was expecting something thought provoking.

Visuals were spectacular. I really liked the colors and the camera work.

Then please explain what it "is" and how your analysis is the only clear cut answer with no reason for discussion

I’m just watched it late last night and I know that I really enjoyed the acting, cinematography, music/songs and story line even for knowing zero of there even being a book prior to. Also for a fact after reading this thread I’m very shallow minded when it comes to movies that can/could have multiple conclusions based on how u view life. Lol

I give it 3.5-4 out of 5

Definitely worth seeing in the theater

So am I, apparently.

There are some deep theories going on in here where I just saw a simple film.

He saw a simple movie. Just like us, that's his view of it. Someone could easily see this movie at face value as well. There are no rules.

What was the deal with the soldier pasted/grown into the wall of the pool? WTF was that supposed to be? I get the other mutations, but that one has me puzzled.

Also, cancer lady confused me.

It all depends on how you view the movie, I guess.

Did you take it at face value or view it all as some allegory?

In both situations, I don’t think there was really anything outside of face value in that situation.

Again, I’m not the best to answer these questions since I viewed the movie pretty shallowly.

Yea, it did sound like I was coming across as a jackass, but it was an honest question. I just wanted to hear what your thoughts were since you were the first the think it was simple and didn’t need much discussion

The corpse of a soldier was pasted on a wall, skull ripped in half, and some type of mural was growing from his remains.

Just wasn't sure what it was.

I doubt there will be as the movie did not follow the book and was based more on the impression the book left with the writer of the film. He did not even go back and re-read it or the rest of the trilogy before filming. If it had been made into a straight action sci if horror then maybe I could see a sequel but imo this felt like a one and done.

I just didn’t see the depth that others did. I’ll also admit that I didn’t consider some of the theories that others expressed though.

My fault may lie in my viewing of the movie. I didn’t see it as a vehicle that existed to further the development/explanation of a singular character, which seems to be the case. I was far more interested in the world and the genetics altering entity than I was Portman. That may have impacted my viewing since I found her character to be pretty uninteresting.

I feel that it had the same process behind it as Arrival, but with less overall success at getting its statement across.

It isn’t a bad movie in any way.

She didn't have it in the flashbacks nor most of the time in the Shimmer. I'm not exactly sure when she "acquired" it, but I think it was when she approached the Lighthouse.

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but in the video of Kane slicing open the other soldier to show his guts slithering around one of the other soldiers who was helping to hold him down also had the tattoo.
