Does anyone else feel like this movie is going to be really good but completely bomb at the box office?

Probably exactly what will happen

It cost $40 million to make so I would think with the Netflix deal for international rights and the doministic take they’ll be fine. It won’t be a blockbuster but should be profitable.

Jesus Christ feel like I just got out of an acid trip. And I loved every minute of it. But can someone please help me out with the ending?
SPOILERS
What the hell happened to Jennifer Jason Leigh at the end? And what was that tattoo Natalie Portman ended up with on her arm at the end? I noticed one of the dead soldiers had it also. My initial thought was that JJL’s cancer cells were going to spread to all the organisms within the shimmer and that was what was going to destroy is but that’s not what happened at all lol

Finally, the Tarkovsky version of THE THING we've all been waiting for. I do mean that as a compliment.

The tattoo vexed me as well.
The paramedic girl that went with them had it.
I never noticed it on Natalie Portman in the bedroom scenes back home but noticed she had it when she was in the room being interview after the incident occurred and also when she rolled her sleeves up while walking through the forest after there night camping at the old base.
Just googled it. I guess there was so
Funny stuff going on with the tattoo

Saw it today with zero prior knowledge of the books. I left the theatre thinking “I really liked it but feel like I’m not sure what just happened” After reading a few explanations of the ending, (the Screenrant and Collider articles are good) I have a better understanding and even more appreciation for it. I enjoy movies that kind of leave you scratching your head at the end.
I would definitely recommend catching this one in the theatre. The visuals and score were great.

I haven’t researched the ending yet but I mean it’s really not an ending because of 2 more movies.
Anyone know if garland will be directing those too? I really hope so

One of the articles I read said he had stated he had no interest in doing another. But you never know, if this one is really successful he may reconsider

I've actually seen this compared to Stalker.

Just saw it. I enjoyed watching it, but I have no idea what just happened I need to read up on it like others have said. There’s going to be a ton of people who are going to hate this movie, and honestly I couldn’t tell them they are wrong. If you loved this movie I couldn’t argue against that either. The other people who I saw it with, a couple of them I would consider to be well versed with movies, all said they didn’t really know what to think either

I have a good idea of everything that went on I think, but who knows if I’m correct
Posted on 2/23/18 at 10:36 pm to Civildawg
I have some thoughts but no clue how right they actually are

I understood it but it was a letdown.

This. I enjoyed most of the movie though, visually incredible. But at at a certain point I was just let down. Maybe I just expected too much.

We need a spoiler thread. The screen rant and collider articles that I read both had different understandings of the movie and I’m sure they’re not the only ones with differing thoughts. One of them was more along the lines of what I got out of it but I don’t think there’s just 1 sure fire answer, which is a good thing for this movie imo

This can be the spoiler thread. I'll update the title.

The only part I don’t understand is why the alien Oscar Isaac got better when the shimmer gets destroyed

I saw it last night.
Wow. I've been thinking about this movie a lot since I've seen it. I've been wondering what kind of movie it was. My first thought after it ended was that this movie is Science Fiction Horror. But after considerable pondering I realized that that was only one aspect of this movie. And there are many aspects. All very well done.
Being an avid Horror fan, the first thing that stuck out to me in this movie was how it essentially broke the rules of how it presented its horror elements. Things can happen fast. In most horror movies, the scare moments are slowly built up with tension and music. This movie throws shocking moments right in your face with no warning. That aspect alone was unique and worth the price of admission for me. If you’re a horror fan and you respect the genre, you’ll be very happy with this movie. It’s a very well done Sci-Fi Horror movie.
But that’s just the surface of it. In a lot of ways, I compare this movie to the Darren Aronofsky film mother!. Not in subject matter or execution, but in the way it displayed itself with no concern for formalities, rules, or audience acceptance. You can love it, hate it, analyze it, whatever. The choice is up to you. It is what it is. A work of art straight from the mind of the director, not altered or tampered with for general viewer acceptance and understanding. And for that, I enjoyed mother!. I know a lot of people probably disagree with me on that, but I thought mother! had a lot of redeeming qualities.
Anyway, back to Annihilation. The movie is filled with great sci-fi horror elements, beautiful imagery, interesting underlining themes, metaphors having to do with real life behavior and situations, great performances, and intriguing story telling. I did do a little research, but soon realized that people have different views on what the movie is about and what it represents. You can go deep down the rabbit hole by doing research on the web, but in reality, there is no wrong answer. I choose to just enjoy it for the beautiful work of art that it is.
10/10. I never give 10s, but I can honestly not think of one reason not to give this movie a 10. I'm not saying everyone will like this movie, but for me, it was as good as it gets.
ETA: I guess the only critique I have is that I wish the director had more money for the production. Ironically, that's exactly the way I felt about Aronofsky's The Fountain years ago. I look forward to the future of this director.
