Yep, me too. Right before she turned around I knew she was gonna have a baby in her arms. I was watching by myself and was saying out loud, nooooo. Noooooo, noooo. I just thought of poor Casian and his sacrifice, how he’ll never know. The emotional roller coaster of that scene hit multiple levels. I was mouth open shocked/stunned, sad, then happy that his legacy and blood will live on.

The fact that I’m speaking as if this actually happened proves how well this show was crafted.

Haha true.

We basically got a series of incredible movies in a matter of weeks the way they did the episode arcs/releases.

And yet they wasted Luke, Han & Leia in the sequel trilogy with piss-poor storytelling.

Knowing Cassian's backstory made the end of Rogue One put a lump in my throat.

I was very flippant when they announced Andor at first, but I was gladly proven wrong by how powerful the story was.
I've not seen Rogue One in years, definitely not since watching Andor.

Honest question: how well does that hold up to this series? What I seem to remember, it was still fairly dark and gritty (a plus in this case), but was focused on Jyn Erso's point of view- not necessarily a bad thing at the time, but she's definitely a side character now that we know who Cassian is. And that Andor was portrayed as a "good" guy with questionable ethics, making a point out of shooting the injured guy early, and then sent to kill Galen Erso.

Does it hold up, does it seem better, or does it seem weaker now that we've got this show under our belt?

I think it holds up great and adds more meaning to the story. It isnt as good as Andor but it's still a really good movie.

I thought it was great at the time, and upon rewatch after Andor, it's literally the best SW movie after Empire, IMO.

Andor elevated what was an already great movie and put in the SW pantheon.

There were multiple times during opening night of RO that I found myself thinking, "Damn. This Cassian guy is dark. They took 'Han shot first' to a whole new gear".

I wasn't sold on Cass at the time, and was very leery of the news about an origin story series for him, but his big picture makes Rogue One a deeper study into good people doing bad things for the right reasons.

"Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue" kept coming to mind.

Even on into A New Hope, things like the empty seat at the DS board room table (Krennic's) hit harder

Season 2 has been a big hit

Streaming Ratings: ‘Andor’ Concludes With No. 1 Overall Ranking

The ‘Star Wars’ series also helps ‘Rogue One’ onto the top 10 movie chart.

quote:

The conclusion of Andor propelled the Star Wars series to another high mark — including the No. 1 overall ranking — on Nielsen’s streaming charts.

Andor collected 931 million minutes of viewing for the week of May 12-18; its final three episodes debuted on May 13. It grew by 101 million minutes week to week and set a series high in viewing time for the fourth consecutive time — one for every week Disney+ released episodes of season two. (Disney+ had the top two titles for the week, as Bluey came in just behind Andor with 922 million viewing minutes.)

That’s wonderful. Add another zero to that check to get Gilroy back.

The attention to detail makes this show even better on rewatch.

I just did Andor a couple weeks ago and this was what constantly impressed me. They did an amazing job of keeping the feel of tech from the OT well (which the prequels absolutely failed at) while also making the worlds real. Dirty, grimy, and scuffs/marks everywhere outside of specific sterile Imperial settings. You could tell they invested in tactile and it paid off handsomely.

It felt like the cinematography and lighting was also more classical cinematic than the other Star Wars content post-OT, which were all too bright (which I associate with cheap/bad filmmaking). The craftsmanship of the aesthetics overall was incredible. It's a lesson for sure.

You don't need the force, Jedis, or Skywalkers.

Tactile production, classical cinematography, and adult Star Wars content done by real writing/acting talent can take the universe anywhere.

Lightning in a bottle because no show will ever get that leeway or a $650 million dollar budget to make their own direction again.

Too many folks like SEK and his YouTube followers will make sure Disney doesn't invest that much money because it might get boycotted

Solid example: mando season 3.

I thought it was a good season, not as good as season 1 or 2. But better than any other star wars since the OT.

Then u go on reddit or on here and apparently season 3 was awful.

Yea that’s just false, the people he follows all loved and promoted Andor. They were part of the reason s2 was so much more popular. The real reason SW will have budget trouble is because every other thing they’ve done is dogshit that nobody likes or watches. Their streaming service is dead broke because of it and their cinematic brand is damaged maybe beyond repair in its current form as the Mando movie will prove once again.

What’s sad is they’ll eventually hand it over to Dave Filoni who, while better than Kennedy, couldn’t put together a show like Andor if his fricking life depended on it.

Listen to interviews from Gilroy and Luna. They both heap high praise towards Kennedy and say this show never happens without her. And they've brought it up multiple times unsolicited, so it isn't PR.
