And this is why The Office Reboot should NEVER happen

and also why Hollywood sucks a big fat one these days. Nothing can be funny any longer because it may cross the finest of lines of people's hyper sensitive feelings these days.

Some fans of the show will argue that Michael's bad behavior was a part of the joke, but with the recent revelations about widespread sexual harassment, it's hard to find those scenes funny. Remember, for instance, when Michael sent a sensitive photo of his female superior Jan (Melora Hardin) to the company's entire warehouse department? Yes, he only meant to send it to one person — but even that is still a complete violation of her privacy.
With a woman in the regional manager role, The Office could do away with the uncomfortable power dynamics that accompanied Michael Scott's tenure. And not being guilty of sexual misconduct doesn't mean that character has to be completely serious, either. (Just look at Superstore's Glenn — he'd never hurt his employees, though he's anything but the show's voice-of-reason character.) In today's day and age, though, harassment jokes are a fine line, and there's no reason The Office needs to walk it again.

Network television could never get away with creating a character like Michael Scott in today's television.

Diversity Day won that show a fricking Emmy.

if they do go forward with the reboot they should throw up a huge middle finger to the PC crowd and have Todd Packer run the office as manager.

I get your sentiment, but wow having Todd Packer on every episode would get soooooooo old.

Do you actually believe this? The character might get trashed by the great popsugar.com, but Michael Scott isn't exactly Archie Bunker. I mean shite guys, the show has only been off the air for like 4 years

Agreed. Most of his offensive things were typically good natured. I could see it still being ok in today's TV.

It really sucks that studios have basically come to the point that they eschew risking new ideas (which to their point a lot of them have sucked recently) to just rebooting known franchises and knowing good or not it'll still make them money hand over fist because the majority of people will still watch it. Thankfully Netflix has been pumping out pretty reliably good, original shows recently because the majority of network TV has been trash save for a few shows.

Oh I agree.
Its why I wouldn't be surprised if they do in fact bring in a woman. Everything is likely to be so forced it's going to be cringeworthy at best. They need to leave this show alone.
Heck I almost forgot about this. and the reboot will be worse when they bring in basically an entire new cast.

If they bring Nellie back, I may just refuse to watch on general principle.

Since CC has been showing reruns I have been watching when ever I get a chance. I remember seeing a Michael Scott moment recently and thinking "There's no way this would fly only a few years later."

Funny how killing people on film and TV is okay, but joking about sexual harassment is taboo.

Yeah I can't wait to tune in every week to watch a show staring this as leading character.
Or this.
Or this.
