............

"There is only one" winner.....

THe power of the devil in all of you who voted for The Exorcist over Halloween

Championship match recap: It was probably the closest match of the entire tournament. Both were steam rolling through the field and it made for a pretty epic championship match. Through the majority of the match it was a back and forth battle with numerous lead changes but early in the 4th quarter THe Exorcist made a mini run to put them up 5. Very late in the 4th Halloween made a run but came up just short. 57-55 The Exorcist.

Thanks to everyone who voted Not who I voted for but a very worthy champ. THe fact that it's the only movie ever that I'm actually too creeped out to even watch it should say it's a worthy winner.

Now, what should we do next? Best Rom-Com is the front runner. Chick flicks would probably be allowed in that tournament. Westerns. Sci-Fi. Best animated movie (we did Disney/Pixar but that leaves out a lot).

I'm open to suggestions.

I’d rather westerns or sci-fi

ETA: Didn’t realize there were so many chick flick fans on here

Noir. Both old and neo noir.

Within the margin of error, I demand a recount

I did 3 times because I came up with a one count difference each time. Another poster in the championship thread said he got a 56-58 vote but didn't say the winner for spoiler reasons. If you recounted and got Halloween as a winner I wouldn't be mad

Could've told you it was gonna win, without a tourney.

As discussed, we already know the winner though (Crazy Stupid Love).

Sci-Fi.

We've never done that? If not, that is my vote by a large margin.

ETA: Looks like we did a sci-fi one back in 2009 when Freauxzen used to do his "MWADS" (Movies We Agree Don't Suck) threads. But since it's been 16 years and the board is much larger than it was then, I think we could take another run at it.

BTW, here is a list of some of the MWADS ones we did:

Past Movies We Agree Don't Suck
Top Movies (Twice)
Top Comedy Films
Top Science Fiction Films
Top 100 of the Decade for 2000s, 1990s, 1980s, and 1970s

The true GOAT

Regarding a new tourny I would be down for westerns, sci-fi or best sports movie. Rom-com I haven't seen enough likely. What aboit the hottest actress for that one particular role. Not all time, but for one movie they knocked you out. Example, CZJ in Zorro.

Hasn't the best rom-com tourney been done already? Do a tournament of music movies. Fiction, biopic, musical, whatever. Plenty of stuff out there to choose from. My first nomination is Crossroads.

It almost certainly should be a Hugh Grant movie that wins. Two Weeks Notice should win. Though I'm pretty confident it wouldn't win because I don't trust this board. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Clueless, and Crazy Stupid Love would be top choices as well.

Given the boards age, i feel like When Harry Met Sally would win.

Sexiest Actress x 3 - Beckinsale, Daddario, and Connelly
Greatest animated movie - The Lion King
Best TV Show - *I had serious health issues pop up right as the final four came out and didn't post for almost a year, sorry. Final four was Breaking Bad, Seinfeld, Cheers, and The Wire.
Best Sports Movie - Rocky
Best Action Movie - Die Hard
Most Hated Movie Character - Commodus

My only hold up with Sci Fi is that if we let Star Wars in, you can pretty much pencil in Empire Strikes Back as the winner. And probably all three of the original trilogy in at least the Elite 8. i could be wrong though.

Are those threads available for viewing? I know they're probably locked but I kind of wanted to look back and see some of the write ups I did for those. I remember putting a decent amount of time into some of them

Eh, not necessarily (although IIRC I think Empire won Freaux's original thread...I'll let him chime in on that.

I also haven't seen most romcoms, so my input will be limited (as would my voting). Plus I just generally don't give a shite about romcoms. But that's just me personally though. I'm down for whatever the board wants.

First things first, you should definitely finish this one off. Especially since participation is high these days. Who cares if it was several years later? Just knock out the remaining two threads of TV shows while we figure out which tournament should be next.

I can't find them, but they may be on the Classics board now that I think about it. I'll have to ask SFP if he can find them there.

2001 should sweep the whole thing.

Do you have a comprehensive list of the MWADS tournaments we've previously done?

That list I found was in a random thread from 2009. I don't remember the timeline on when we did those for the most part.
