What's the deal with Merle? I got up for a second and must have missed it
Posted on 11/7/11 at 12:35 am to GynoSandberg
He showed up on the preview for next week

Ah I recorded it and didn't get the preview.
But yeah, this show is getting worse.
The fact that they dropped the kid down the well was downright and utterly stupid. There was 5 fricking wells. Also, the fact that the old man didn't want guns around. Seriously? These two things baffled me. Retarded.
When the actors are forced to get emotional in a scene, they just totally shite the bed. It really is kind of funny
Honestly, what came out of this show tonight? The asian got laid, the woman took a preggo test. Some small religious talk and Shane feeling regret during the funeral. They writers should have skipped this episode.
Seems like they are alternating good and bad episodes.

Have they spent every episode trying to find this girl now? Shaved head lady is the worst character too. She brings nothing and now they spend all their time looking for her daughter who can't follow directions.

I'm starting to think Merle took her when she left where she was hiding. Just a theory on why they haven't found her yet.

Would've been better if a walker came after her, she drops the test and doesnt know if she's pregnant or not
I honestly thought that's what was gonna happen last night. Also, pregnancy tests only take what, like 30-60 seconds to show? I don't mind them speeding that up for the show.

Agreed. She still hasn't thanked a single person for spending all of their time and energy looking for her daughter. Especially Darryl, who not only spends most of his time looking, but also did the whole "Cherokee Rose" thing to make her feel better. What a count.
I actually enjoyed last night's show...one of the better episodes IMO. I still hate how slowly the plot is progressing (and I use that term very loosely since nothing has still happened, aside from Carl getting better). But I felt like last night included the right amount of all the characters.
What I liked:
Glen getting some deserved arse, even though he was completely inept and imcompetent. Him gloating afterwards was also awesome ("So it was great for you, huh?").
Well zombie. Was a cool way to have a little bit of Z action thrown in, even if they were retarded in how they handled it. And him splitting in half was awesome too. Nice dose of some gore, which the first season did well with.
The pregnancy thing is finally here, which we all were expecting since season one. Will be cool to see how that plays out.
Darryl's expedition. I'm a fan of almost all things Darryl. It'll be interesting to see how he changes (if he changes) once Merle is back.
fricking Merle is back! Should lift the show a little.
What I didn't like:
Shane and Rick's acting. I had to rewind the show several times last night, and eventually had to put on the closed captions, to understand what the frick Shane was spewing out of his mouth. I understand the character he is playing, but for frick's sake, speak clearly. Rick's whisper-speak is annoying and it's making me hate him (which sucks, because I like Rick). Also, Shane's acting at the "funeral" was shite too.
Well-Zombie strategy. I an buy that you want to get him out. I don't even have a problem with using Glen like they did. But lower him head first so he can slip the rope around the Z from a safe distance. Also, with 4+ people pulling the rope, you don't need a pulley system (but if you use one, make sure it's fricking sturdy). And if there were 5 wells total, just blast that Z and shut that well down, then fortify the other wells to make sure nothing like that happens again. Also, side note: Even if that water wasn't zombie-contaminated, I sure as frick ain't drinking that shite. It was obvious that he was bleeding and oozing all over the place anyway.
Not a chance in hell that drug store would have a single drug left in it. That's one of the first places that would be raided, and even seemingly useless drugs would be taken for precaution.
Still no Sophia. She better lead to something huge.

The best thing about this episode was the well scene.
And that's funny because it was unnecessary because there are 4 other wells they could choose from.
:requisite farm girl is hot and I would bang her to prove to the people on this board that I am a man sentence:
So who thinks that Rick was told that his wife was pregnant now? I guess we'll know if he snaps and tells her he knows, or she tells him. I'm going to love it if Shane is the father. That's why she seemed upset, or because of her speech about having a kid in these times.
I don't mind the episodes playing out like they are. It's almost real time. 1 day per episode.
ETA: I bet Sophia is with Merle.

Could be, and if she is, it'll be awesome seeing Merle and Darryl react to each other because of that. It seems like Sophia has become Darryl's focus, and he is showing some concern and care for her and making it his priority to find her. Should be interesting and awesome to see that showdown if she is with his psycho, abusive brother.

I want to see a flashback of how Merle got from A to B including cauterization of his forearm.

I really liked this episode.
They've taken a long time to create this world and today we just hung out in it and it became more well-rounded. It also gave the characters a chance to become more than cutouts or zombie bait. The Shane/Andrea scene especially was a great moment where we learned a lot about the characters (also, once Shane forgives himself for shooting Otis... look out).
I like the well scene because it was the kind of wheel-spinning I believed in. There's not a lot to do in Zombieland, so sometimes you just do things that seemed like a good idea at the time. Look, even if they get the well zombie out, it's not like anyone is drinking that water anyway. It was just something to keep the gang occupied. what's wrong with that? (Other than risking Glenn's life for no reason, other than to get him a pity screw).
Also, we need Herchel to throw them out to get characters back on the road. The show is making the gang appreciate not spending every second in terror, which is what's going to make their eventual eviction so traumatizing. I'd be stunned if they are still at the house by season's end.

Which is the more ridiculous premise: that someone wouldn't want the protection of guns during a zombie apocalypes, or that a Georgia farmer would have some sort of moral objection to guns?

Exactly. Now that I think about it, it's just like something you would do if you were on a camping trip. You find some hole in the woods and you just play around it or with it all day.
Like build a bridge over it, or make it a fort.
Just something to spend time doing.

I'll go ahead and make the bold prediction that even though Merle appears in next weeks episode, it will not be to the group and will probably be a flashback to him finding Sophia when she ran away.
