All I care about is that they are pretending Prometheus doesn’t exist

Fede Alvarez is the directors high chances this is just a straightforward monster flick.

I’ll take that any day over the Ridley Scott pretentiousness

EDIT: Wow...ypu guys really like Prometheus & Covenant, huh?

What an absolute waste. At least they didn't ruin their own ip (copied story from H.P. Lovecraft). What does Romulus indicate (i know it was one of the brothers raised by a wolf that founded Rome)? Back to sci-fi horror jump scares.

I assume it's the name of their ship.

If they keep the CGI to a minimum and use practical effects like in Alien and Aliens, it could be good.

This. I didn’t hate Covenant as much as the rest but the CGI took me out of it.

A back to basics Alien movie with an emphasis on practical effects and I’m there day 1.

I don't have much faith that they will do it right. The temptation will be to try to make a "new Ripley" as a super grrrl-power badass, rather than make a good, interesting character that the audience can connect with.

Edit: My point here was that Ripley was a good, interesting character that the audience connected with, and not an over-the-top bad arse like in more modern movies.

Leaks from the screening is suggesting links with Convenant and Prometheus.

I didn't know they were making a movie about the Romulans homeworld. Hopefully they explain why they love shoulder pads in their uniforms so much. Those Romulan Warbirds are pretty awesome ships.

They used the same sound design from the Prometheus trailer so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

That's just it...Ripley was never an uber-powerful girl boss. She was a smart, resourceful but very HUMAN character, that was scared as shite and had to overcome those fears to function and survive.

Wiki says it’s set between alien and aliens.

I still mourn Prometheus. The trailers and build up was crazy.

Exactly, but Hollywood today thinks that a strong female character has to be a super powerful girl boss with absolutely no weaknesses and no use for men. She's stronger and smarter than every man in the room, and she lets them know it. In other words, she's a Brie Larson Captain Marvel clone.

I dare say that most audience members, even women, can't relate to a character like that.

Ripley and Sarah Connor were strong women, but they were both still very human.

Both James Cameron and Ridley Scott have said they liked the screening of the movie. Big hyped for this.

That movie was a Phantom Menace level disappointment. They gave away everything in the trailers and clips released in advance.

This looks good but trailers can be deceiving. I will be seeing this for sure.

That's the point I was trying to make. Ripley wasn't a super bad-arse in the first Alien. She made mistakes in that movie just like any other horror movie character. But she was able to overcome her fear. She survived almost purely on her will to live.

And in the beginning of Aliens, she was still a mess, suffering from the terror of it all.

She didn't just magically become a Navy SEAL-level warfighter because the script said so like in so many modern movies. She saw the LT was screwing up and people were dying, and she stepped in and helped out even though she was terrified -- and she still made mistakes then, tearing up the tank and crashing it.

Through the events of the movie and her interaction with other characters, she grew and was motivated to keep fighting back.

Her character was interesting and compelling, and her character evolved through the movie. That's why you cheered on Ripley, because you identified with her struggle and wanted her to win.

Even in the final showdown on the ship, she didn't go in guns blazing -- she used the cargo loader that they had already established she had been using back home and that she was very skilled with.

Hell fricking yeah. Evil Dead was awesome too and judging by the violence shown in that flick, this thing is likely to be the goriest Alien film in the franchise. Can’t wait for this to be honest.
