I understand that the Pirate's franchise is fictional, but many of the characters are based on actual pirates. Just race/gender swapping for woke points is why that company has the reputation for destroying IP's.

Just to clear things up since OP was kinda misleading. It has not been confirmed that the character is based on Anne Bonny. That part is speculation based on it being a pirate movie and a character "possibly" named Anne.
There was a black character named Anamaria in the first pirates movie, maybe she is portraying her

Hell, hollywood is casting Denzel as Hannibal Barca. I like Denzel but Hannibal was not black. But, because hollywood depends on the ignorance of the masses, because Carthage was located in North Africa (across the sea from Italy), hollywood (and the idiot masses) think "you see Africa, that means he's black".
It's ok to be historically accurate when representing historical people.

Nope. Ill just save my outrage for when we find out it is actually supposed to be Anne Bonny. I don't see what the rush is to be outraged about it now, before we know anything about the character besides the name maybe being Anne and this chick maybe being called in to tryout for the role. I'll have plenty of time to be outraged when they start filming the movie, whenever that is.

The Sparrow character is such a flanderization at this point I'm not sure starting fresh is a bad idea.

I think the franchise could be successful with a reboot and no Johnny. Who doesn't love a good pirate movie set in the Caribbean?
The last 2 movies they turned sparrow into a bumbling idiot who good things happened to through luck rather than any cunning maneuvers by him

Also this girl hasn't even been cast yet, it just said they want someone like her, which probably came from 1 person in casting telling 1 guy in Hollywood that.
It reminds me of when the witcher fans all got outraged over casting a black Ciri, which turned out to be wrong.
