This was due to FCC rules prohibiting mergers of 2 of the Big 4 TV networks, ABC and Fox. Completely irrelevant to this Warner Bros/Paramount merger.

Several democrat politicians called for anti trust hearings and Disney had to divest itself from twenty something regional sports stations to get the deal approved.

We have a solid decade of evidence that these corporate Hollywood mergers cut productions and jobs. This merger straight up cuts a studio, and the last one to do that, you guessed it, resulted in fewer productions and job opportunities. Why would the industry employment unions ever support the loss of a major employer?

Why are the online Trump dudes blindly defending a business deal that has been opposed (by some) for stated, obvious reasons that have nothing to do with Trump?

Maybe.
Personally I don't see that as a positive and I think it's likely AI won't turn a profit through the creative works fast enough to stay alive; most AI that remains will be those will business applications.

People act like this was an optional event.
WB was and is fricked.
The option appears to be less competition with WB being acquired, or less competition with WB going bankrupt and selling IP off
