"First Man should have been nominated for Best Picture — it probably came in ninth or tenth — and its visual effects are pretty amazing. I think they were produced more on a stage — with models and old-school stuff — than the other nominees', which relied more on CGI, and I really respect that. There's just no way on earth that I will ever vote for anything with the word Avengers in the title; like a lot of people in the Academy, I don't respect money-grabs."

THR is the outlet that spoke with the voter, and from what we know about the unnamed person, he’s a dude and a director who votes as part of the 519-person director’s branch.

So dumb and pretentious.

Is every movie that makes a lot of money a “money grab”? This wasn’t just some shitty production where the slapped Avengers on it in order to sell tickets.

Yeah screw money grabs we here at the Oscars prefer movies that follow a list of boxes to check off so much so that many are called Oscar bait before release.

Says the dude who votes on a night of millionaires congratulating other millionaires on who's best at playing pretend.

I pretty much wrote off the opinions of Academy voters when Saving Private Ryan somehow didn't win Best Picture.

I respect his honesty here, and were I ever in his position, I also probably wouldn't ever vote a tentpole action movie for a top award.

Go frick yourself you pretentious shitbag. Every movie is a moneygrab, including many that rely on "Oscar buzz" to draw a money-paying audience. Also, the Academy is notoriously susceptible to bribery, so maybe do some reconsidering about who's grabbing the money while you're at it.

The Academy loves those who jack off into potted plants.

What a maroon. I'd point out that back in the day, it was westerns that were considered gauche and not worthy of our admiration, and it took the French New Wave to revive the reputations of guys like John Ford, who is now widely regarded as a master. Get over yourselves.

Though FIRST MAN was robbed. It was great, well-acted, and had spectacular special effects. IT's the exact kind of movie the Academy should be honoring. There is something to be said for movies that should be seen on the big screen, yet also are aimed at adults. But they are too snobby to honor ARRIVAL or ANNIHILATION, much less THE AVENGERS.

It's been like this for a long time in the Academy. Making a fun, well liked movie that turns a massive profit makes it harder to win an Oscar.

That's the reason a lot of the nominees are frequently movies very few people actually saw. It's sort of the hipster mentality where something suffers for being too "mainstream."

And the only thing ARRIVAL won was Sound Editing. Which they have no problem giving to a popcorn flick,

And there's nothing cheap about the Avengers. Our old language of "B movies" is tremendously outdated. And genre films can be every bit as good as anything else. To write off a genre is a problem with the reviewer/voter, not the film. It is an outdated, blinkered way of thinking.

I think most people would agree Avengers films aren't best picture material. I think it's his pretentious attitude (don't respect money grabs, lol) that makes people roll their eyes.

Infinity War should've won best picture, best director, or best something screenwriter/producer in 2018.

Please show me another movie that manages to juggle that many main characters in such a strong fashion.
