Yes, but don't start the books unless you want to become exceptionally pissed off with a man who has to lube all of his doors with butter.

Man you're in for a helluva ride. As others have said it takes a while to understand who everyone is. Keep in mind there's a lot of symbolism involved as well.

Hate these threads.

Yes, it's terrible. No one watches. Move along.

Not a book reader, just a fan of the show-

yes, it's that good. First couple seasons are incredible. There are some storylines that I tired of, but that didn't happen until maybe season 4 or 5 for me, and there are still brilliant episodes (some of the very best) afterwards.

The first 3 seasons are extremely in-depth with the amount of stories building, and the various character arcs.

By all means, avoid spoilers. Don't do it, even if you think you're just getting a taste. Don't read a damn thing online anymore about the show.

It's about the only show I can say that I never had any interest in watching, but got instantly hooked as soon as I finally gave it a try.

Game of Thrones is the best thing I've ever watched. I did read the books first, so maybe that helped, but plenty of non-book readers would tell you the same thing.

In absence of a completely botched ending (which seems unlikely) GoT is on track to become the best TV series to date. There is really no other show that has been produced with such great expense with such an outstanding cast and such a complex/ambitious plot encompassing so many story arcs pulled together across so many diverse and wide ranging geographical locations. There's really nothing else in the same leagues as GoT in terms of an epic TV series.

Don't be that guy. That's part of the enjoyment of the show to let your guard down.

Haha. Guy hasn't checked back in yet. Probably still binging in front of the tube and hasn't gotten up to eat yet.

The series would be better with Nicolas Cage in it.

Honestly, I'm glad I never read the books. The story has many unexpected twists and turns, and for me, experiencing them completely blind has been part of the fun.

I read LOTR quite a few times before they made the movies. Gandalf's fight with the Balrog on the bridge, Boromir's betrayal and redemption in death, those were great scenes, but I knew they were coming. BTW, that's part of the reason I picked Star Wars over LOTR in the other thread, as I already knew the story for one, I didn't the first time I saw the other. I ASSUMED things would happen, but didn't know it was coming for sure, and was put off when things didn't happen as "they should".

You have similar types of scenes in Game of Thrones, where knowing the twist is coming, or having a scene not play out as you knew it was written, would probably detract from the fun.

Didn't care for it. But that may be partly due to everyone I know telling me that it's a LOTR version of The Godfather.

It may be the most overrated show out there now.

Season 4 is by far the most consistent season. It's like every episode was a 9/10

Definitely my favorite season of the series. Last 2 episodes of season 6 are ridiculously good.

I didn't think Sean Bean could carry a show but boy was I wrong! Great show.
