Even though I'm happy that Shape of Water won I'm very bummed that Lady Bird got shut out

Wasn’t that bad of a show. I’m Sure the Poli Board is having a conniption over something

They are melting over "inclusion rider"

I'm glad the politards stayed on their own board.

I know it's just a year after that, but what did you think was better than Slumdog?

Everybody knows that the best movie of the year was Blade Runner 2049, but they screwed that over.

It was definitely snubbed for a nomination. It should have been in ahead of Darkest Hour and likely The Post (I'm just guessing because I didn't see it)

yeah... except it wasn't that good

Well, I would not have made it best picture, not for me. But I do think it was good. I really wasn’t fired up about any of the films nominated this year. Of the ones nominated, Phantom Thread was probably the best but Lady Bird was my favorite.

So we pretty much all agree that the last time the actual best movie won Best Picture was 2007 with No Country for Old Men, right

Welp, at least Rockwell and McDormand won. 2 outta 3 ain't bad

IMHO, McDormand got it bc of who she is, her role in the movie was pretty meh. My vote would’ve gone to Margot. Probably unpopular opinion, but it is just that...an opinion.

What's with the Lady Bird love? It was a cute movie and both actress were good but it didn't resonate with me as well as some others. Middle of the pack movie behind shape of water, 3BB, Phantom Thread, Darkest Hour and Get Out.

Is Phantom Thread really worth watching? I just looks like the stereotypical pretentious nomination that only caters to movie snobs.

Wait, this is Oldman’s first Oscar? Simply criminal.

A much bigger crime was that this was only his second Oscar nomination. He's just as good of an actor if not better than Leo DiCaprio and Sean Penn and those guys have five Oscar nominations while Oldman only has two. It just doesn't make much sense.

I mean, everyone has different opinions obviously. The two years after No Country for Old men with Slumdog Millionaire and the Hurt Locker were good although I know a lot of people liked Avatar more. Argo was great. So was Spotlight.

I agree with this. I love McDormand and certainly don’t mind her winning but I thought Robbie was better, hands down.

I’d have to go back and look. But with things as subjective as movies I doubt everyone will agree. Some liked There Will be Blood over No Country...

I thought it was worth it. It was kind of an odd love story but it was worth watching. The music, costumes and performances all tied together. Its an artsy film though so yeah you're probably right about catering to movie snobs.
