Yeah, The Wrestler. It's in my top 3 or so for the last 10 years

I know it's all personal preference, but it wasn't even nominated (albeit I thought it should have been).

Spotlight was really, really good the year it won.

But I’d still give the edge to Whiplash, which was miles better than La La Land, which actually won in a different year with the same director.

Neither of those won

Don't think there were any surprises tonight outside of maybe original screenplay. Can't remember the last time that's happened.

It was obvious that tonight's Oscar ceremony was going to be extremely predictable based on how the award season went. Oldman, McDormand, Janney and Rockwell ALL had swept the major acting awards (SAG, BAFTA, Critic's Choice and Golden Globes) coming into tonight's ceremony. That has never happened before. In fact, 2006 was the only year when there was as many as three actors to win the five major acting awards. To have all four actors sweep everything was unprecedented and was the reason why tonight's Oscar ceremony was very boring and predictable.

One thing that kind of bothers me when it comes to the critics of the Oscars is people feeling that a movie should win solely for a representation stand point other than the best movie.

Like Lady Bird should have won or Greta should have won because it would be a great sign of things to come.

I actually liked Lady Bird a lot, but the reason it should win would be because it's the best movie, not what it stands for.

Add Spielberg 2 for 7 in Best Director, and 1 for 5 in Best Picture. With one of his best movies Catch Me if You Can with no nominations.

I don't think Spielberg has been hosed that badly by the Academy. Only Scorsese, Wilder and Wyler have more Oscar nominations for Best Director and Ford, Capra, and Wyler are the only directors with more wins.

I don’t think that is a problem with those who criticize the Oscars.

It is kinda how many people believe the Oscar voters decide on best picture, actor, actress, etc.

I have no opinion on its validity, but people seem to have issues with the Oscars, not because they don’t vote based on their “great sign of things to come”, but because they do vote that way.

I’ve never heard anyone complain based on what you are saying.

Fury Road should have won that year.

No director has been hosed more than Alfred Hitchcock. One of the greatest directors to ever live, only 5 nominations for best director and no wins. Ridiculous.

Thanks for listing all the winners in the OP so I didn't have to go searching for them. I have actually seen 2 of the films among the winners you had listed, so I guess it was a good year for film.

I thought Three Billboards was a lock for best picture.

I thought that it was more of what the Oscars would want as best picture (since The Post didn't deliver). And 3B won the Golden Globe. But the buzz was all about Shape of Water.

Supporting Actor and Best Actress were a lock for Three Billboards. It might have had voters thinking they should throw some weight towards Shape of Water for Director and Best Picture.

I wish more shows like this were on Saturdays so I don’t mind staying up late to watch. Same with Championship Games.

Best performance I saw last year was James McAvoy in Split. I'm glad Gary won but his performance, nor any of the others nominated, were better than McAvoy's

If I had known that there was a controversy with Ryan Seacrest causing the actresses to refuse to be interviewed by him, I'd have watched the Red Carpet portion.

Yep. Apparently he liked to grind his dick on his former stylist.

His assistant said he was grabbing her everywhere and rubbing his boner on her. And he likes to give "underwear hugs".
