So is Shape of Water going to give back the Oscar if they are found to have plagiarized?

The Oscars has been this way for decades. The more universally liked film usually doesn't win.

Shape of Water is the first fantasy/sci fi movie to win since LOTR The Return of the King in 2003.

Frances McDormand kind of looks like Mickey Rourke to me.
Yikes, I can't get that image out of my head. Damn you!

A much bigger crime was that this was only his second Oscar nomination. He's just as good of an actor if not better than Leo DiCaprio and Sean Penn and those guys have five Oscar nominations while Oldman only has two. It just doesn't make much sense.
What do we take away from that? Keep political opinions to oneself?

Nolan is a great example of this.

I’d have to go back and look. But with things as subjective as movies I doubt everyone will agree. Some liked There Will be Blood over No Country...
Raises hand.
Honestly I watched No Country for the first time in a long long time the other night and to me it hasn’t aged well. Wasn’t nearly as great as I remembered.

I thought she had the strongest performance of any actor/actress this year
I mean, it wasn’t a bad performance. Just didn’t strike me as great or as having much range. Her role was to be trashy and mad all the time and that was more or less it.

It’s merely a decade old. You act like it’s from the 80’s.

and Martin Scorsese. Dude was making some great movies for 3+ decades and didn't get an Oscar win until The Departed.

So tired of seeing her win Oscars for the same bland performances. Glad she didn’t get it this year
Most people don't have a problem with Streep having three Oscar wins. Their main issue is that she has 21 Oscar nominations which is NINE more than the actor/actress (Jack Nicholson and Katharine Hepburn) with the second most nominations. She's been nominated for a bunch of performances (Music of the Heart, The Devil Wears Prada, Into The Woods, Florence Foster Jenkins) that no other actress would have gotten an Oscar nomination for.

Her nomination for The Post was not justified.

but what did you think was better than Slumdog?
Yeah, The Wrestler. It's in my top 3 or so for the last 10 years

Add Spielberg 2 for 7 in Best Director, and 1 for 5 in Best Picture. With one of his best movies Catch Me if You Can with no nominations.

Damn right. Mickey Rourke got robbed

The best movie hasn't won in over 10 years. My Country for Old Men was the last.
I thought they got it right with Moonlight last year and The Hurt Locker in 2009. And while No Country For Old Men was a very good film, it was not in the same league as There Must Be Blood. That movie was PTA's masterpiece and his crowning achievement as a filmmaker.

Crime it didn't get nominated for Best Picture, and the Springsteen credit song should've also got nominated.

What's with the Lady Bird love? It was a cute movie and both actress were good but it didn't resonate with me as well as some others. Middle of the pack movie behind shape of water, 3BB, Phantom Thread, Darkest Hour and Get Out.
I thought it was one of the more genuine and heartfelt movies this year. It just felt real.

Saw Darkest Hour and Fish People in Water. I wasn’t impressed with anything nominated this year. Wife fell asleep in Water movie. I didn’t think Darkest Hour was the best Churchill movie this year.
I’m glad unique movies are getting recognition but it was just strange and the plot just seemed beleaguered by the final act.

No Country For Old Men
I liked this movie a lot but it wasn’t my favorite of the Cohen brothers. Ocscar’s chance of giving the tandem a nod taking into account previous work.
