Looking at these lists makes you realize how much solid waste Hollywood puts out today.

A male rite of passage. 9 is old enough

My Dad showed this to both of us when I was 10 and my brother is 7. 9 actually is a good age. Young enough to still be a little scared and not realize how relatively cheesy it is compared to todays standards but not so much that it'll emotionally scar them really.

I was a kid in the 80s (born in 78), so I think the kids movies are far superior to the 90s, but I could be biased.

80s
The Last Starfighter
Goonies
All of the Indiana Jones movies
Back to the Future
Flight of the Navigator
Karate Kid
Gremlins
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Teen Wolf

I can't imagine a 9 year old today will care for Field of Dreams or Ferris Bueller.

Loved both of them. Especially Field of Dreams. Kid is obsessed with baseball.
