It was better than The Martian, that's for certain.

how the frick is Alien not on there

Agreed.

It'd be different if all the movies had been non-horror, but Event Horizon means that horror movies weren't off the tablet.

Alien and even Aliens definitely give that lonely feel.

Ad Astra - wow the whole purpose of this movie was to shite on the basic premise of science fiction movies. What a horrible list.

As said - Moon has to be on the list.

2001 anybody?
Silent Running
Solaris
Sunshine

First thing I thought of was Ad Astra and Solaris, then 2001. Not sure the OP has seen enough movies (which isn't necessarily a critique of the OP).

The author even took this from the original Alien poster.

Passengers should probably be on there too; it has two characters but loneliness is a key element (as i have read since i have not seen it).

Passengers has a weird reputation. It's a really interesting premise and I don't dispute that the critical decision the main character makes early in the movie is almost criminally invasive. But under the same circumstances I can't say that I wouldn't make the same decision. Nor would I expect subsequent events to play out substantially differently than depicted.

The Fishburne character sums it up nicely. "The drowning man always tries to bring someone with him."

The third act is stupid but the first and second are really good.

Yeah Passengers has an interesting premise.

He should’ve found someone hotter than JLaw to awaken.

Alien sure seems to fit this bill.

Oh, and Outland as a wild card.

Number three is utter trash but the first two are pretty good
