Maybe the tech stuff and CGI, but similar to Lawrence of Arabia... it's the visual cinematography that make it so great.
In addition, I really like the gritty elements and Sir Patrick Stewart/ Max Von Sydow. Those factors play a bigger role to me than the poor worm or ships CGI.

I'm afraid they would focus too much on making the CGI right and really lose the key elements that made the original so great.
