Also, this made me laugh for some reason:
I wonder how much concession sales schools are losing due to lack of attendance.
quote:
Florida State, which won the 2013 national title, last season had a scanned attendance that was 57% of its announced attendance. FSU spokesman Rob Wilson blamed personnel and technical issues in scanning tickets and said, “We do not believe the difference is as large as the data appears to show.”

i remember my freshman year at a&m, i thought i was smart cause id buy two bottles of water before the game started. id drink one during the first half and one during the second half and i wouldnt have to deal with the lines and shite at halftime
only to find out that it was so hot that my second bottle of water was completely undrinkable even when kept in the shade on the third deck

HDTV and every game televised is to blame more than anything else.
I really have no desire to go even when offered tickets. Going to a game wastes your whole day. Watching it at home only eats 4 hours

The way we'd get around that would be to freeze our water the night before so that by the time the 3rd rolled around it'd be half melted and cold.
Of course in recent years the rules about bringing stuff in to big events have become so strict that I wouldn't be shocked if they would take that frozen bottle away at the gate.

Really? Then why is there no longer a waiting list for season tickets at Lsu? And why are they still having to offer single game tickets for even the biggest home games?

You people and your “I’m mad at your decision so I’m not going to the games!” strikes are ridiculous. The football program profited $56M in your absence. I’m sure theyre sorry you didn’t make it.
You're definitely much more upset by their decision, and have dedicated much more energy towards thinking about it, than Lsu is. That's for damn sure.

Most schools scan and keep count of tickets used at football games. The Journal requested access to those counts under public-records law, and most public schools supplied them.
Not surprised LSU abstained. Lots of empty seats last year after the maddening debacle that led to the Ed O hiring. Attendance was falling before it happened; O just accelerated it.

Sun Belt games do have its advantages.
We (South) may not have a great atmosphere for our games but at least we can buy a cold one if we want.
i remember going up to a few Auburn games to visit friends during the College years and they all would sneak flasks into the game.
yeah... lets drink bourbon when its 95 degrees in September at 2:30 in the afternoon.
WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

There were season tickets available for general sale on the LSU website just a couple of weeks ago. Some in the lower bowl. I'm sure some people at LSU are taking notice.

The program as it's currently designed is not positioned to win 10 games per year sustainably and compete for SEC championships and the CFP. If LSU surprises to the upside this year and wins 9-10 games, I still have a much larger sample size, given that LSU has one of the worst coaches in the history of an inferior program currently running the show. It is irrational to think the reliance on elite coordinators and recruiting with a clown running the program, is positioned to compete for success over the long run.
That, and college football (and football in general) just aren't that interesting to me any more. So that's also a part of it.

I haven't gone to a game since Ed O was hired. I don't want to go and boo, because these are college kids, so it's the way I can show that I'm mad at the choice.
You're being downvoted, but this is EXACTLY what the rant has said to do since O was hired: don't boo the kids, vote with your wallet.

I don’t buy it. Regardless of ticket sales, they’re still making a fortune. Now, what happens if LSU wins 8-10 games this year? Are we still in protest?
I understand the sentiment if they’re perineal losers right now and barely scrapping 5-7 wins per year. Then I’d do the same thing. But we’re still in a wait and see portion of thisncoaching staff and the bottom line is just not agreeing with you guys at this moment in time.

do you think this is correlated to orgeron and LSU? i'm honestly just curious and not trying to call you out individually. i find it interesting (legitimately, not in an insulting way) that it appears that a plethora of LSU fans in particular are losing interest in football, while im noticing that UGA fans, for example, are at all time high levels of interest.
my whole "thesis" is essentially that EVERYONE is a fair weather fan to a great extent as it just makes sense to spend your money and time on a successful/enjoyable program. this isn't ground breaking, but being a fair weather fan is very taboo in the sports world. the part i'd like to explore, but never will, is the correlation between a successful program and your level of interest in the sport itself. Does it come and go? If your program is unsatisfactory at certain stages of life, will your interest forever be lessened (and vice versa)?
sports fans are incredibly terrified of being labeled fair weather fans, so they tend to find whatever reasons they can to avoid it.

No idea why people by season tickets to CFB games. If you are an LSU fan, pay a slight premium for the game or two that are worth seeing and be done with it. Paying for tix to LSU v McNeese or North Texas, and be favorites by 30 points 3 or 4 times a year is lunacy.

I can see giving a coach time when it's a regime change, but the argument in favor of Ed O was that there wouldn't be a major transition. We kept our best coaching asset and much of the staff remained. Ed O was supposed to keep up his great recruiting and let his staff carry the coaching load. The fact that 8 wins can be looked at as a successful season now is a bit telling of how far the program has fallen.
I am fine with those that are protesting. Many want changes now so we don't get to be where we were in the late 90s. It doesn't have to be a strict wins and losses thing to be unhappy about. The list can be a mile long.
1. Cutting corners in the coaching search
2. Rising ticket prices
3. Creating pay lots where free lots used to be
4. No longer competing for SEC West titles

Maybe so on the margin. In other words, that would make sense for why I would prefer to watch the Saints than LSU right now.
I think part of being the type of fair weather fan you describe has to do with not wanting to invest time into things that are run by stupid people with little hope. It was a lot easier to stay engaged in the Astros in 2014 and even go to games because you knew that a turnaround was in sight and that the front office was competent at a minimum. Going back to the Saints, I know that they are impeded by certain things, but I know we have an all-time great offensive mind at the helm, so I'm a little more interested in watching.

I don’t think anyone is happy with an 8 win ceiling. I’m not saying that. I fully expect LSU to be a contender (although it’s hard to do considering who’s in the SEC West with them).
Regardless of any coaching staff, there will be transition, no matter the circumstances. 2 seasons to give a coach is ridiculous and unfair to whomever it may be.
At the same time, if they end up 7-5 this year and Alleva gets the boot (as he should), I wouldn’t be surprised or sad that O is probably going with him. Problem with that is that there will be ANOTHER coaching change and another transition time

I love attending games, but you have ask: why drive two hours and pay $75+ to watch Mizzou either: a) play some shitstain cupcake in the non-conference; or b) get wrecked by Alabama. Especially when I can watch those bad match-ups essentially free of charge from the comfort of my couch. Tailgating and spending time with friends/family are my only real reasons to actually make the effort to drive out there.

I get that. I love my CFB Saturdays in my man cave, but a few times a year I've gotta venture out and get to a game. Last year I made it to 4 USC games. This season I'm starting out in the ATL for UW vs. Auburn.
Also hoping to meet up with 2 buddies (another USC fan and a ND fan) at Tiger Stadium for Bama vs. LSU. We have always wanted to go to an LSU home game.
