I mean, it’s either Wrigley or that temp stadium by the water they built.

A lot of trans used to play in baseball stadiums.
Yeah but those were “multipurpose stadiums”
Baseball specific stadiums are pretty bad for football, probably 50% of seats are gonna be shitty

They played football at Fenway Park for decades. Older stadiums aren’t one trick ponies and they have character that places like Jerry World in Dallas can only dream about.

Northwestern's other stadium probably doesn't fit 20,000. They were going to want to have more seats available when tOSU came to town.

don't care about the stadium, how does one get on the "shitty public art" gravy train?

Does anyone know why the Bears spent so many years playing at Wrigley while Soldier Field sat unused?
They played at Wrigley until 1970

My son is a production assistant for the cubs and helps run the video boards at wrigley and was able to work this game today. Will also work the NHL game later this year

Yeah I fail to see what the issue is here unless someone thinks football fans will get cooties or something in a “baseball stadium.”

Read the article I linked above and you will find some of the issues with playing football at Wrigley.
Hint-The field doesn't really fit.

All those things were part of the charm. IMO modern stadiums are sterile.

Two things that this brings to mind:
1. Philadelphia Municipal/JFK Stadium was a massive venue in Philly. It opened in 1926 and closed in 1989. It sat over 100K at its peak, hosted the Army/Navy game from ‘36-‘79. The Eagles only used it for a total of 5 years spanning the 30’s and 40’s. Instead, the Eagles played at the Baker Bowl and Shibe Park, two baseball stadiums, then Franklin Field at UPenn and The Vet. Philly had a giant stadium just sitting there…

2. Soldier Field is extremely long. You can see in this pic that the end zone seems to cut off an entire section of stands. Other pics on the internet show cars parking down there. What would the reason be to have an area long enough for a 175 or so yard field?

Soldier was essentially a track and field stadium. That's why the playing field area was so long.
One needs to remember that it wasn't until the 60's that pro football really took off. College was the bigger sport by far. Hence the huge college FB stadiums we still see today while pro ball didn't need such large venues and didn't have the funds to build their own.
New City Stadium (better known as Lambeau) was built in 1957 to replace what was essentially a falling down wooden high school stadium that did not have locker rooms. Teams dressed at their hotel.
New City Stadium was only 32,500 seats as built and was the first "modern" stadium built for an NFL franchise.

The long area in the north end zone at Soldier Field was originally an open pedestrian terrace but they filled it in with seats in the early 1970s when the NFL passed a rule that stadiums have to seat at least 50,000. That particular section of the stadium can be used as a completely separate venue for things like tennis.
FYI they had auto racing at Soldier Field for years at Soldier Field on a half-mile paved oval inside the stadium, including a NASCAR Cup race in 1956 that Fireball Roberts won.

The Chiefs played at the old KC Municipal Stadium.
That's just the way it was. Major League Baseball was already well established and football had to come to them for places to play.
Between 1911 and 1927 Alabama and Auburn played many of their home games at Rickwood Field in Birmingham.
