It’s amazing looking back

70s and 80s 30million viewers were common for the world series , and that is with the US having 100 million less people…..

Sure but it's all relative and I was pointing out those ratings because those numbers were pulled without the Dodgers,Yankess,Red Sox,etc being involved.

So the WS use to average roughly 13% of the nation watching

Now they average about 5%

Cleveland seems to be a big draw in all sports. Crushed the NBA ratings, crushed it in the WS a few years ago too

I will be watching and don't give a flying frick if people in NY or California watch. Pretty certain trophies and rings don't have TV ratings engraved on them.

So what do you think?
Over or under 20million average viewers? Or is that too high? Say 18m?

Yeh, dead serious. It’s about branding. Houston and Nationals are two top size markets and they were the worst rated World Series Over the last 5 years and 2nd worst over the last 20 years and that was a fantastic series

baseball was a much more national sport back then. now its very regional. id also assume there was a lot more novelty to the world series back then as the NL and AL were very much considered different leagues and MLB was more of a loose term recognizing the two as equal. and i bet we do get larger viewership numbers, just in different ways that we dont do a good job in counting. like streaming

I think people in NY will watch
I don’t think California will, but they don’t watch anything

If MLB did a better job promoting itself and especially its stars instead of certain teams, a great matchup like ATL-HOU wouldn't be an issue.

This is my biggest issue. They have no long term vision considering they keep beating everyone over the head with the Red Sox/Dodgers/Yankees/Cubs.

They need to grow the MLB out of the regional locks, but won't happen if the only exposure you get is to the Yankees.

What are you laughing at? The nation does not tune in for baseball games. Regions watch their teams and that is it really

As a Braves fan, I don't care. But the Braves definitely have a national following. It's the media who doesn't care about them.

I don't know how much national fan base the Astros have, but it's not like they're some boring unknown. I think the matchup would bring plenty of interest if it happens. If not, that's certainly not my problem.

i mean it is in the sense that people from cincinatti arent tuning in to watch the mets play the marlins. people watch their teams, and they do so at a strong rate, but that doesnt translate to watching national telecasts with other teams playing as much as it used to

The MSB ratings would be at an all time high.

Who gives a frick if the north east and west coast dont care. We dont care when they play either.

The Braves have a big national following and Houston has been a WS participant several times lately.

Also the Braves have played Minnesota and Toronto in the Series before. This one will be fine.
