Baseball has become a regional/team based sport
The local TV ratings for reg season games are good and TV contracts reflect that
But the masses wont tune into a WS game just because

This Braves team is the most fun to watch in a while. A HR could fly off any batter at any time.

If MLB did a better job promoting itself and especially its stars instead of certain teams, a great matchup like ATL-HOU wouldn't be an issue.
Would the unwritten rules of baseball even allow the MLB to promote certain players?

All I know is frick the Dodgers

But of all the matchups, two southern teams seem like a nightmare scenario from a ratings perspective right?
Depends how nostalgic the nation is for the early 2000s.

I guess we will see if it has good ratings or not. Throwing out the covid year, Giants vs Detroit is worst ever average rating at 12.6 million viewers average “Good” for these days would be around 16-17 million
I bet you it won’t be the worst

Why do the unwritten rules only allow for shoving the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Cubs down our throats?

I wonder how much this holds true. It’s been 15+ years since the Braves were on TBS. While they do still have the strongest following in the South, I doubt it’s close to what it was in the ‘90s. Not to mention they simply haven’t been as great as they were in the ‘90s.
East TN is still pretty heavily for the Braves... at least until Nashville gets a team.

Another reason to root for Braves v Astros. I want Manfred to suffer for his sins (i.e. moving the All Star game out of Atlanta).

I’ll start by saying fans of those teams shouldn’t give a shite.
Correct.

And I hope so. frick MLB and their constant attempts to shove the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Cubs down America's throats. MLB deserves what it gets from a ratings standpoint if it is Astros-Braves.

I forgot about that. Would definitely be a bit poetic.

You do know the Atlanta/Cleveland WS was one of the highest rated WS ever, correct?
Both teams play in big TV markets and both have a huge regional following (Braves viewership footprint is 2nd only to the Yankees)
I think the ratings will be fine.

It would be low compared to the prospective hate-watching by r/baseball that would occur in a Dodgers/Astros matchup

Atlanta is a top 10 market

That was 26 years ago.
And?
BTW both markets (Houston & Atl) have grown substantially since then

Think he just means, we won’t see numbers like that anymore
We won’t ever get a WS hit the 20m average anymore.
But in my opinion this WS will definitely get more than 12.6 (which is the lowest outside the COVID year)

The TV landscape is completely different. There’s too much competition for eyeballs. And the Braves don’t have the cache of their ‘90s teams (88 wins this year without their best player) and the Astros aren’t close to a “national brand.”
Not to mention the ‘95 series ratings were on the lower end at the time following the strike.
