They are already talking about how “Clark is what the wnba needs to save itself.” This is just someone from reddits dissertation on it, but that person is surely not alone on this thinking. It’s all over the big sports and news outlets.

quote:

Since its inception in 1996, the WNBA has been a colossal financial failure. In a 2018 financial report, Adam Silver admitted the league had lost an average of $10 million per year ever since it was founded. Since then the league has started to turn around. The average viewership per game has doubled in that period and , the total revenue reached over $200 million a year. A few individual teams, have even started to become profitable. However despite these great strides, the league as a whole still loses money and has a long way to go before it becomes ingrained in our culture similar to other pro sports leagues.

Lolol. This will never happen

quote:

Despite 3 decades of disappointment, there is absolutely hope that the league can turn around. That hope is Caitlin Clark.

Lololol

quote:

So it’s clear Caitlin is dominate, but the question is, if she can really bring in enough viewers to change women’s basketball forever. The answer is a resounding yes.

Lololol

quote:

Frankly I just don’t see how she wouldn’t permanently alter the viewership levels and fan interest at the next level.

Lololol

They also cite the big crowds that are coming out to Iowa games and how the womens March madness gets more attention than WNBA while ignoring that fans are tied to their schools and will support when they are doing good. They aren’t tied to womens basketball.

They want it to happen so so so bad because then womens sprots will finally be equal.

IDK why its so popular here to actively root against the WNBA. I don't personally watch it, but its success or failure doesn't impact me at all. It probably will have an uptick when Clark goes. Some of y'all have daughters, its cool that there is an option to go pro in a sport for them.

A lot of the hate for Clark is LSU fans for some reason reverse melting over a player their team beat its very strange.

How much does NBA make? Is 10M a drop in the bucket?

Article from substack says
quote:

The NBA brings in over $10 billion in annual revenue with nearly $3 billion in profit. That makes the world's biggest basketball league also one of the world's most profitable sports leagues.

Same people that start threads comparing women and men’s athleticism

I’ve never watched the WNBA and have no vested interested in seeing them fail or succeed. But actively rooting against them is weird

Tacky you sound like a pathetic incel. If you don't like it don't watch. Just ignore it if it gets you all triggered to post about. Go find something you like. Life is too short to worry about meaningless stuff

I don’t like the WNBA and I’m not about to start watching it, but she will undoubtedly help. The WNBA doesn’t need saving because the NBA isn’t going to take the PR hit that comes with cutting it loose.

Caitlin Clark is extremely skilled and a huge net positive for women’s hoops no matter how funny it is to make fun of the WNBA online (which I am also guilty of)

She will bring a lot of viewers with her. Deny it all you want, but she will. If she's averaging 30 a game, there will be people watching. The female Larry Bird.

I know this isn't necessarily what this thread is about, but it's a great example of the dangers of making college sports more and more like pro sports.

If LSU and Alabama were playing ping pong on SEC Network I'd probably check it out, at least for a few minutes.

I don’t think it’s a big deal at all that the WNBA loses money. It has a lot of the same owners as the NBA. I think they’re playing the long game on those teams in the hope they’ll be worth something, and for now they can write off the business losses and use it to test new business concepts for the NBA
