Peter Gammons can kiss my arse.
I'm excited about what Luhnow is doing, so I'll be patient. And I can promise you that whoever makes the 25 man won't be trying to tank games.
Baseball is played on the field.

I honestly don't think they're tanking on purpose. Houston is not a hot commodity for FA at this point. They have a big pool of young prospects, why not let them develop and then when a few or more pan out, and you start to become somewhat contenders, then go for the FA. I think trying to sign old FA right now is pointless

idk honestly, I'm not a mind reader. I cant predict 5 years into the future. All well, most, of those are very young talented players(with Correa being the youngest). Like I said he has the potential. You're making it seem like I came out and said hes the GOAT and should be the starting SS for the AL Allstar team. Every prospect is drafted based on potential, nobody knows exactly what is going to happen, 5 years is a long time, especially in baseball years. I dont understand why you just cant acknowledge that he is a top SS prospect with the possibility of becoming one of the top SS in the league.
and to be perfectly honest, depending on various factors, like Carlos' growth physically and his talent progression, along with the development of Fontana, I wouldnt mind moving him to 3B ala A-Rod.
ETA: I will say that him being so young and inexperienced at the professional level, yet being so highly regarded by many credible people has to say something. You have to remember that most of the guys you listed have 2-3 years, if not more on him.

No. Peter was throwing a hissy-fit like the OP is; Believing that the owners are taking advantage of the revenue-sharing to make a profit. It's a point, but clearly neither of these two know shite about the Astros. The Astros are going to finish in last place this year regardless of how many quality money players they could possibly grab. There is no reason to waste money now, just wait and build up a better team for now.

Being highly regarded doesn't mean nearly as much as one thinks. Hell Brandon Wood was the second coming of Cal Ripken Jr with power.
Posted on 3/24/13 at 10:28 pm to lsu31always
No, because Jim Crane wants to win and is willing to spend the money. But he has to rebuild first.
He has wanted to own a team for a long time, lost out on the Cubs, and got screwed out of the Rangers

2011 top shortstop prospects
look at this list. obviously Machado panned out, but look who else is on that list that hasnt, or hasnt yet at least. I would also like to note Profar's position...as an 18 year old. pretty darn close to the position Correa is in now. You have to give it time is my point. Carlos will climb his way up the ranks(hopefully ha) with experience.

I don't think Lester is completely trolling, I can see how someone who doesn't follow the Astros closely would think their farm system was still shite, since it was for so long.
Every major piece we had we traded for 4 prospects, and a few of them have had good showings in the minors, which leads many analysts to project many of our prospects will produce at one point or another. The strength is more in the depth of our prospect pool but many of our top ten prospects are considered very high ceiling guys.
If you are really interested I provided a link.

I follow the Astros. Not trolling at all. They jumped 20 spots with the same group of players. It's crazy to think they are so much better off.

Go Royals!! I played T Ball with Eric Hosmer

the cubs have 3-4 prospects better than anyone in the Astros system

Except it isn't the same group of players. I've pointed out the difference in Mayo's top 20 from last year to now, if you check the others you'll see the same theme.

i must have missed it. what guys are in the top 10 this year that werent last year, besdies correa. any difference makers?

In BA's top 10 it is McCullers, Ruiz, Fontana, and Tropeano. Tropeano was with the organization but blew up last year. Half of the top 10 is different and it wasn't due to anyone moving to the majors, and the 5 they replaced are still with the organization.
I can't find Mayo's top 20 from 2012, but 7 of his current top 20 were acquired in trades last season and 4 were drafted. So at least 11 are different, but Tropeano and another pitcher on the list probably were not on it at this point last year either.
ETA: Didn't see your edit until after posting. There are no Profars, and no one will step in to make a huge difference any time soon. The ranking is mostly due to depth. We still need a couple high upside arms. Singleton and Springer will probably be the only highly rated guys to arrive over the next two seasons.

I know youre trolling, but I feel you do actually somewhat believe the point you're defending so go do your research. Please. We did multiple trades including the two biggest with the Jays and As. We had a hell of a draft nabbing McCullers who many thought was a first round talent. Plus the prospects we do/did have are developing really well
