you do realize that a year ago today the Astro's were in the bottom 5 in terms of talent(consensus)?
not much has changed. They drafted Correia and Deshields decided to hit. That is about it.
lol. Tell me what has changed between last year and this year?

No, how about go and sign younger free agent talent like Bourn, Melky, Stephen Drew, etc? Not all free agents are over the hill you know
We could sign all those guys for a lot of money and still not be worth a shite. Then what?

That's enough to vault them 20 spots?

Keith Law had them 26 last year at this time. Look it up. With the same players minus Correa

No, it was obviously sarcasm. They weren't consensus bottom 5 last year, and other things besides the two you mentioned happened.

The Astros have a lot of prospects in the pipeline. Will they ever amount to anything? Who knows.
$25 million payroll doesn't give any Astro fan any warm and fuzzies. This could very well be another 100-loss team.
Am I excited about next Sunday night? Hells yeah! I'll be in Section 127, Row 15, Seat 9 rocking out with my cock out, screaming until I get a headache and then screaming some more. This is why you're a sports fan. Sometimes you're the pre-season favorite, sometimes you're riding on nothing but blind faith.
I never thought I'd see the Saints win a Super Bowl, but it happened. I just hope I can see the 'Stros win a World Series before I die. Maybe there was a reason I paid $1,082.50 for a Game 4 Nosebleed to see the W-Sox dogpile. Maybe I'll get to take my son to the 2019 World Series where the 'Stros will be victorious!
Also, I'm happy the Astros are out of the boring NL Central! Out of a division with the armpit cities of the US like Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and St Louis.
I'm excited to start a 19-game a year rivalry with the Texas Rangers. I'm excited about the late night West Coast games. I'm excited to be an Astros fan.
Geaux 'Stros!!!

I think it's sad that as of a few days ago, tickets could be bought through the Astros for the opening game - opening game for all of baseball and against your new rival. That's pathetic.
With that being said, I'll be there. Rangers are my favorite team with Houston being second. I hate they're in the same division, let alone same league. frick Selig and his throwing away of 50 years of history. Make his piss ant Brewers switch to the AL Central and send Kansas City to the west if evening out the leagues 'had' to happen - which it didn't. I love baseball but Selig sucks arse. Only good thing he's done is the drug testing. Fire Selig and hire Bob Costas!

Ok. Kid is only 18 he's not even fully developed physically much less when it comes to talent. And I didn't say he WAS on their level yet. He has drawn that comparison and has the potential to be. But then again you obviously know everything about everything so I should just listen to you.

Clearly, you already know all as well. He is not as a young A-rod. Hell, he was considered the third best talent in the draft. I don't even think he was the top talent on the Astros' board this past year. They just decided that McCullers, Ruiz, and Correa were better than Appel or Buxton.
And I hate comparing amateur players to well established big leaguers, let alone future hall of famers.

If you're a real Astros fan, you don't give a frick what league you play in. If it means I can get out of the dull NL Central and in a division where the team can form a true in-state rivalry, sign me up.

It's baseball, the top 3-5 players are all similar in value its just the one you fancy better. Personally I wanted Buxton but I thought they were both fairly equal. Plus the Astros had/have much more outfield prospects than middle infield, I mean we hae Villar but he just doesn't seem to have it, solid player but average big leaguer at best. Carlos had the POTENTIAL to be top 5 and you can't deny that.
ETA: Top 5 at his position not in the whole league

4 of the top 10 or 11 from the 2012 Baseball Prospectus list probably aren't even in the top 20 at this point.
I assume MiLB is Mayo? I don't see his current org rankings but looking at his current Astros top 20 list....7 were acquired during trades last year, 4 were drafted in June (all in the top 11), 3 had very good bounce back years, and another pitcher came out of nowhere and is in the top 10. Thats a minimum of 11, but more likely 12 or 13 of his current top 20, that weren't even part of the organization or not in the top 20 at this point last year.
ETA: This doesn't mean the lineup will be loaded with All Stars in two years, but shows how much building has been done and how much has changed in a short period of time.

Yeah, their farm system really rebounded the last couple of years.
But this is an interesting debate. Peter Gammons had some tweets about that fine line you walk doing what they do and that they can pass it off as "smart rebuilding" but it's basically losing on purpose and whether or not that compromises the integrity of the game.

You think in 5 years, he is better than Simmons, Castro, Tulo, Andrus, Profar, Desmond, Bogarts, and or Diaz?
