So you'd rather them waste money on veteran contracts?

Again that sort of the point of my OP. If they view veteran contracts as "wasting money" then how will they behave when it's time to ante up for these homegrown players they are selling you on?

No, how about go and sign younger free agent talent like Bourn, Melky, Stephen Drew, etc? Not all free agents are over the hill you know.

How about the fact that veteran contracts would be a HORRIBLE idea for them to take on. Why the hell would they sign a few veteran players to please some people who think they're just tanking. Yes, they'd view keeping their top young players from their farm system as wasting money.

Again rebuilding is one thing. A 25 million dollar payroll is something else. They have basically said they are totally fine with losing 105 games for the next 3 years minimum while we cash these checks the big market teams are writing us. How can you possibly spin that as an ownership groups that cares about winning?

Ownership is following Luhnow's 27 page rebuilding plan step-by-step. I guess you will see in three years when they are roflstomping every team in the MLB. (especially the Cubs, they will suck for eternity)

yes or no: do the Astro's have a future all star in their farm system in the next 3-5 years?

emphatically: NO!

especially on the pitching side. ZERO stud arms.

A lot of MLB owners take that view. Why is Jim Crane any different?

What would be the point of hiring a guy like Luhnow, then?

Yeah, and give up draft picks. GTFO. You realize if they increased payroll by 15-25mil they would win maybe 3-4 more games. Jack me off at a medium pace. Woooooooooooooooooooo.

I did answer it, which was basically saying you're mentally challenged if you believe you can emphatically state whether or not a farm system will produce an all star in a 3-5 year span.

You are more or less saying that not a single prospect in the system will pan out or breakout. So you can look at this list and tell me for sure that not one of those prospects will be an all star.

Lastly, I'm sure you haven't forgotten the Astros have the first pick this year and Mark Appel is the favorite at the moment. I wasn't too thrilled about picking him last year (I thought Correa was BPA), but he has vastly improved this year according to scouting reports. In fact, he arguably threw his three best games ever in back to back to back starts.

Do some research

#1 1B prospect
#7 2B prospect
#5 SS prospect( whos being compared to a Tulo or young A-rod and is only 18)

McCullers was a big draft steal for us. him and Cosart will be in the rotation soon enough. Also an upcoimng #1 pick again.

Not to mention Springer and the big bats we got in outfield from the Lowrie trade. This team will be fine, you have to give it time, not going to happen overnight.

ETA: The Astros have a top 10 farm system that will only get stronger after this next draft.
Plus once Delino comes up an asserts himslef like I think he will, theres no need to keep him and Altuve. One of them will get traded and it WILL be for good value.

The Astros remind me a lot of the Tigers in the early 2000s. The Tigers were a big market team that had been abysmally bad for a number of years. I'm sure most of their fans thought there was really no light at the end of the tunnel after 2003. But they were able to turn their fortunes around quickly. Their farm system really wasn't that great either. The only players that ended up doing anything was Granderson and Verlander. All of their top prospects ended up flaming out or busting. The Tigers built their team mostly through savvy trades and free agent acquisitions. You don't need to have a good farm system to turn a bad organization around.

Not really, I don't feel the need to write up a summary report on each of the Astros top minor league players for your reading enjoyment when you can go to google.

I wouldn't be stupid enough to try and definitively state that even the worst farm system in baseball will not produce a single all star in a 3-5 year span.

Of course, you are the one who thinks the Astros have bottom 5-6 farm system when they are consensus top 10, which means you are not very informed (if at all) thus any further discussion is pointless.
