Why won't Lebron do the dunk contest?

Is he scared of competition when it's a level field?

Jordan seemed to embrace the challenge while Lebron avoids it.

Has he given a real reason?

Because the dunk contest is stupid. Has been for a very long time now.

This seems to be a big reason why he'll never be considered over Jordan as far as GOAT. Dude is scared of failing.

I know Lebron lost a dunk contest in high school which is why he's probably not too keen on doing it again.

When he didn't get put in the all star game as a rookie he vowed never to do the dunk contest.

Comparing what the dunk contest was then, to what it is now, is dumb as frick.

He has no reason to

I think he knows guys who can jump as high but smaller frames are built better to do gymnastic/circus type dunks. With his frame he is more of a power dunker than a guy who can do a 360 type dunk. I would love to see him try, but being anointed the "King" he has nothing to gain by doing this. Another reason why Jordan was better, being the best was never good enough, he always tried winning everything he could.

He's been in the league for 10 years now. I think he could have made it once

Most players want nothing to do with the dunk contest, not just LeBron.

Didn't Tyrus Thomas get slammed for making comments about it?

I think he would get his arse whipped. But again its different now. When MJ was doing Dunk Contests it was a COOL thing to do. Its LOST its luster BIG TIME. And having Bron be in one would NOT bring that back.

"I'm just going to go out there, get my check and call it a day." He added, "I'm just into the free money. That's it. I'll just do whatever when I get out there."

He's not an acrobatic dunker. Its really not complicated. Just look at his Mcdonald's All American game dunk contest when he was jumping higher than he is now. He's basically doing the exact same stuff that he's still doing in games now.

He's an in game power dunker, just like Blake Griffin.

And like Griffin, he'd have to resort to props, which people would bitch and whine about.

People whine about how much the dunk contest sucks now, but what do people want? There's only so much the human body can do. Are we waiting for Lebron to dunk from the 3 point line? Maybe do a backflip in the air?

Again, its why Griffin pulls a car and a choir out on the court and Dwight Howard puts on a Superman cape. This aint NBA Jams

I've never heard of most of the players in the dunk contest this year. Lebron beating them in a dunk contest wouldn't prove anything

I don't know why Dwyane Wade doesn't get the same criticisms for not participating in the dunk contest. If you're talking about the best dunking wing players from the last ten years, Wade is up there near the top. Why doesn't he get criticized for not participating in the dunk contest?

Because he could never possibly live up to expectations. He would disappoint no matter what he did.
