I have to think it's not legitimate (no duh) but really just riling up the big market fanbases

I haven't kept up fully but does anyone think this is a legitimate meltdown? The best argument for this is the, effectively, universal response, from ESPN to Deadspin

It’s really embarrassing and completely disrespectful. But par for the course for media in 2019

Its ridiculous
Pels get a replacement for AD.
AD goes to beantown or NYC with Kyrie
Durant/Kawhi signs with the Clips

Order restored in the NBA

Zion to NOP. It’s been a collective shitshow in the media.

You wouldn’t believe the stuff they are saying. It’s downright disgusting.

The mainstream sports media has become less professional than the common message board. Its sad.

People weren't this mad about the Cavs getting the first overall pick after failing to keep Lebron. It's really bizarre.

It's kind of crazy considering that 99% of the time they are completely shitting on the Knicks and openly saying that Dolan is worthless and needs to sell the team. And the recent Lakers dumpster fire speaks for itself.

But all of a sudden it's some great tragedy that Zion can't spend 5 years winning 35-40 games a year while playing in the Garden.

My only theory is that they ended up looking real stupid for their "The Pelicans should send AD to the Lakers for a can of beans" considering how that team disintegrated and are just doubling down on Pelicans hate now.

i just don't know how much of this is manufactured and how much is a legit temper tantrum

the media did seem to really want to push AD to LAL and got pissed when the Pellies wouldn't budge, so there's that

but it also just seems so fake, and it's really getting rampped up on fake sports media (like SAS, Cowherd, etc). seems like they set this up by pushing Zion to NYK or LAL, but does anyone think this would be the script today had Memphis won the lottery? Phoenix? Cleveland?

One of the things I hate most in sports is the narrative that only big markets matter and that they deserve the biggest stars of today. It matters to the fans of that small market and that’s what matters. Why the hell should anyone that is a fan care about a series ratings? The NBA seems to be the biggest culprit of this bullshite. It was good to see San Antonio change the narrative here a bit. I would say Golden St was a nice change but they’re essentially located in the epicenter of Information Technology so it only makes sense for them to be successful at this time.

Do your thing Pels, f the haters.

Pretty much this. And it's not like the Pels never tried to build a contender around him. And didn't fire the guy who ostensibly refused to succumb to AD's demands.

It has to purely be hatred of the Pels. Giannis in Milwaukee, KD and Russ in OKC...we have seen superstars grow in smaller markets.

Espn has been talking about how the knicks are gonna build around Zion every chance they get for the past 3 weeks. They are DEFINITELY upset.

i think this is sort of a self fulfilling prophecy created by the media, because this is VERY true for the media

hence my main argument as to why this is fake: this is their way to rile up the big markets b/c only the big markets matter to ESPN

they're effectively reverse trolling NYC and LA

And if AD wasn’t such a bitch he could make his own legacy like Giannis is in the midst of doing in Milwaukee. Giannis has no intention of ever leaving Milwaukee. He wants that city to be HIS city and I love that.
