Take notice how not upset I am by that comment. Folks, I am the antithesis of social diversity and empathy.

Why is the Bayou Classic televised on NBC?
quote:
the early 70's when Black college football was in its heyday and Grambling was sending more players to the NFL than any SEC school.

I remember those days, Track. Got to meet Eddie Robinson at Maxwell's Restaurant in Ruston back in the late 70s.

But even in their heyday black colleges had a huge problem with depth. IE, in a given year Grambling might have 3 guys in the starting lineup with NFL in their future. But at least 5 starters had no business playing football. And the second string was something you didn't want to talk about.

SEC schools had guys who knew they wouldn't see the field until they were juniors or seniors and they still knew the NFL would look at them. David Woodley of LSU is a good example.

Facilities were also a big issue in the decline of black college football. By the late 70s if a top black FB player visited the locker room at LSU and then the locker room at Grambling the recruiting war was over.

BTW, enjoy your posts. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

that's bs. Grambling had more players drafted than any other college until the 90's. Matter of fact the had one team have 24 players drafted. In 73 I believe.

. If race relations have improved to the point that this country will elect a Black President, that means that they have also improved to the point that the best Black athletes will no longer feel any obligation to sign with HBCU's. And if Hampton can have a Black homecoming queen, it should be no surprise that Ole Miss would have a Black homecoming queen.

It has been relevant for decades.

I don't think they missed on Faulk, maybe he didn't fit their schemes. I also think his mother or grandmother encouraged him to leave the state, because they wanted him to get as far away from NOLA as he could, (I've heard this from people who played high school ball with him, not sure if it's true or not)

It wasn't just LSU, Miami, was the program at the time wanted him at DB. I think Tennessee was also after him as a DB. Getting out of state makes sense but going to SDSU because they would let him play RB seems like the big boys just whiffed.

We were responding to someone who said the classic should be moved to bet.

Back in the day, when BET was a real network, they used to show HBCU games. Every weekend there was a Classic.

Now all they show is Tyler Perry "blackbuster" movies that set the race back 100 years.

Let me let you in on a little secret. Most of us black folks don't watch BET. The classic has been on NBC for decades. There is a huge chance this is the last year it will be though because its losing State Farm as a sponsor.
another sponsor is already in place. I hate when people speak on things they have no clue about. SU is in the tops of attendance in FCS with a losing record. For years SU or JSU lead FCS in attendance? The SWAC has lead FCS in attendance every season except the year of Katrina. When SU starts back winning, would have been this season if they had a decent coach, the attendance will be back up. 45,000 is great for a FCS game ask SLU, Nicholls, McNeese who have 1000 at some of their games. The hotel in New Orleans were 90% packed this weekend, according to Nola.com and the weekend had a 30 million dollar impact on the city.

Yes. This should happen any day now.

Where the hell have you been for the last 40 years?

BET has become a modern day Minstrel Show. I can't honestly remember the last time I tuned into that network, if you even want to call it that.

I didn't know there was another sponsor already in place. The last I heard, the classic was losing State Farm. I didn't pretend I was in the know. That's a good thing that someone stepped up and sponsored it. I love watching the classic every year.
