To give more perspective to the youngsters around here, the Bayou Classic was a yearly sellout until the 80's and in the early 70's, before there was cable TV, the only two schools with nationally televised weekly football shows were Notre Dame and Grambling. Also, note that there was a step decrease in attendence after Katrina.
Excuse me sir, but this is no place for facts.

If McNair had been born 20 years later, he would be playing quarterback at an SEC school
He was drafted by the Oilers in 95. Herb Tyler started for LSU by the end of the 95 season and LSU signed Rohan Davey in 96 or 97. I wonder if people just missed on McNair. Recruiting has gotten much more sophisticated now than even 10 years ago. Big schools including LSU and Miami wanted Marshall Faulk at DB so he went to SDSU, clearly not a race/position thing there. Kordell Stewart was around the same time as McNair and he wound up a Colorado, but I'm not sure if he was viewed as strictly an option guy. No doubt guys like McNair, Stewart, Randall Cunningham having success paved the way for guys like Vick, JaMarcus Russell to play QB at southern schools. Just like Gilliam, Harris, Williams and Moon paved the way for guys like Cunningham and McNair.

There is a huge chance this is the last year it will be though because its losing State Farm as a sponsor.
I think I heard on the Jaguar Journal that they picked up on a few sponsors after it was known that State Farm was dropping them.

That means he was college recruit in 92, I don't think any SEC team took him serious as QB when he came out of high school.

That's the absolute 100% truth.
Watching the bayou classic was an after thanksgiving tradition in Louisiana. In the 80's and 90's, the crowd was filled with stars. Now it's a shell of its former self with the new generation. They would rather hang out outside the dome and
see what each other is wearing or leave from inside the dome after the bands finish halftime. It's embarrassing. The game was actually on of the better games I watched yesterday. It came down to the wire.

Obviously, my question is, is it just because they wouldn't consider a black QB, which is possible of course. Or was it just that they missed, like they missed on M Faulk? It's probably a combo of both. Today a guy like McNair would be a QB at an SEC or some BCS level team assuming he was good in HS. In part because guys like him had success in the NFL and in part because there is much more and better info about HS recruits today.

Yeah, that's a nice way to try to crawfish out of that one.

What do I need to crawfish out of? It's a festival between two historically black colleges. Stop acting like I insulted your grandmother.

Exactly why I hate BET. It's embarrassing to me as a black man to see that shite on my tv.

You ever seen the boondocks bet boycott episode?

So you mean to tell me all whites in Louisiana aren't a reflection of the folks on Swamp People or Cajun Justice?

I don't think they missed on Faulk, maybe he didn't fit their schemes. I also think his mother or grandmother encouraged him to leave the state, because they wanted him to get as far away from NOLA as he could, (I've heard this from people who played high school ball with him, not sure if it's true or not)

Me three, and you can add Tyler Perry movies to that list too.
