when gay female athletes have been a norm for forever? Look at elite female athletics such as basketball, softball and soccer.

Because athletes, especially football are seen as very tough and "manly" while gays are usually seen as "soft and girly" if that makes any sense

Just trying to word it as simply as I could.

It challenges preconcieved notions about athletes and masculinity for one

Its a lot harder to explain a lesbian being good at basketball because she is conceived to be "manlier" while a gay man is thought of in the opposite mind set so its crazy to think that a gay "feminine" player could be a good player in football

Thats why the world didnt explode when a kicker came out a couple weeks earlier

Because a male deciding he wants to forgo the laws of nature and choosing to have butt sex with other males is something that should be celebrated and proclaimed good from the highest mountain top. That's the world these days.

Gay females may be the norm in sports, but are gay males?

But at the same time they want to be seen and treated as equal.

That's the only thing that bothers me. I do not think of Michael Sam or any other gay/ minority in any negative way. I just get confused when they want to be celebrated and singled out while at the same time they just say they want to be equal

I don't think he came out to be celebrated... he came out publicly because the media was about to break the story and he wanted it to come from him. Everyone close to him knew he was gay, it wasn't a big secret. Plus with combine and draft coming up he probably wanted to go ahead and put it out there on his terms.

No, I don't think Sam wanted to be celebrated. It's the people that want him to be celebrated

The goal of the hard-core gay lobby does not seem to be equality, it seems more to be acceptance. In reality this goal isn't likely attainable in the next couple of decades without the same type of bullying /strong arm tactics that many of its current members speak so adamantly against.

People are afraid of BBGC and it clouds their minds

Johnny Weir comes out loud and proud and nobody cares because he is in an individual sport and he is nonthreatening

Sam comes out and people are freaking out about him in the showers and locker room like he is going to run around raping ERRYBODY in here

There's no money in women sports.

And being gay is feminine. It's hard for a man to come out around a bunch of manly males.
