Why exactly did the Seahawks let Kenneth Walker go?

Seems dumb af to let the Super Bowl mvp go in his prime but I’m not that plugged in to the nfl so maybe I missed something

Not really their choice if cap space on a loaded team is low and a team desperate to fix their running game (KC) can offer more
RB is not a position stacked teams are going to splurge on unless it’s an elite weapon. The gap between a backup/replacement level player and starter is closer than any other position. SEA also probably couldn’t justify a Top 10 contract for a guy who splits touches evenly with Charbonnet
RB is also the shortest shelf life and worst-paid offensive or defensive position. In 4 years he’ll be 30. The contracts of RBs that play beyond that fall off a cliff (Derrick Henry is wild for still being 7th best paid at RB). You have to go with the $$$ in his shoes even if you like where you are

Charbonnet is really good and Price is really good as well. Seattle made a difficult decision, but ultimately made the right decision.

Salary cap. You can’t be the Dodgers and sign everybody in the NFL. Hard decisions have to be made.

3 years for 45 mill is a ton of money for a RB in the NFL.

He really didn't do shite last season until the divisional game and super bowl when Charbonnet was out. I would know because I had him in fantasy. It wasn't that he was bad but they had almost a 50/50 split going most of the season with him and Charbonnet.

Remoulade got you your answer. They had a ton of guys they had to pay, and RB is replaceable.
Charles Cross, Abe Lucas, Devon Witherspoon, Derrick Hall, Julian Love, Ernest Jones IV, Leonard Williams, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba all needed to be paid first. Those are the guys that keep the window open now.
Walker is a home run threat, but he's not a bell-cow back. He's averaged about 16 touches a game over his four year career including receptions. The split last year was deliberate. That's why he was available all season, and when Charb went down, that's why he was able to take a heavier load in the playoffs. If they Chiefs are smart, they'll split the RB work as well to get him through the season.
No way they pay him what the Chiefs were willing to give him, and I think Price could very well end up doing what Walker was able to do.

Having him on my dynasty team was miserable. He would rush for 30 yards on a particular drive, but once the offense reached inside the 10-yard line, Pete Caroll and Macdonald would bring in Charbonet every single time

I would argue it was a very smart decision. They have an okay rb2 charbonnet granted he is hurt. Let walker go and draft his replacement.
You have a much better shot of maintaining elite level play by going that route vs paying a rb who is certainly good but not really a top 5 guy.

Price will be as good or better, and he is cost controlled for the next few years at a fraction of the price. It's the right decision.
