Why doesn't the NCAA just have a tournament between conference winners to determine NC?

All of this back and forth, eye test this and that. A simple, completely objective way to determine the National Champion would be to have a tournament involving the 10 conference winners. Nobody could bitch, as anybody who felt like they should have gone "should have won their conference". I'd say add a couple of "at large" teams, but then it would get right back in to the pissing contest it currently is. Just a thought.

All conferences are not created equal. This is a dumb idea.

What about conferences that are more difficult than others? The top three-four teams of one conference may be clearly better than the conference champ from somewhere else.

Power 5 champs, 5 at-large

Keeps CFB nationally relevent with teams from across the country. Allows better quality non-champs to redeem themselves

I think the national championship should be a best of 7 series

They can’t guarantee Alabama a slot every year then.

not all conferences are created equal. The 5th best team in the SEC may be better than 3 of the smaller non power 5 conferences,

Because the NCAA doesn't control D1 football.

They only control the subdivisions.

Power 5 champs,
Highest rated group of 5 IF in the top 10
2 at-large regardless of conference affiliation
(3 if group of 5’s top rated is outside of the top 10)

8 total.

Committee ranks them.

Top 4 host

Then go the bowl route on the semis.

Championship on the Saturday of MLK day

Why is ksu more deserving of a title shot than TCU?

They went 1-1 against each other but one has 3 losses while the other has 1. Autobids for conference winners is fricking stupid. It says that a single 60 minute contest is more important than the other 12 games on your resume

Did those other 12 games not lead to the last 60 minute contest?

What a dumb take. You literally have to beat everyone else to get to the championship. If the undefeated team shits the bed, oh well. They’ll still get in the new playoff system as the next highest ranked non champion for a chance to redeem themselves. Meanwhile the champion earned their spot.

I agree. All conference champs, 2 at large.

But I think D1 football should only be 4 major conferences. I think you need to break it up. I get it. Southern Miss and Tulane type teams are never going to win a National Title. But I believe if you go undefeated, you should have a shot at a championship. So I think we need a championship for the non power conferences. SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big 10 champs plus 2

Then the other 6 conferences. Eliminate Independents. All champs. All conference champs. No at large. 2 highest ranked have byes.

So you’re saying that if Purdue beat Michigan they would be the team to represent the big ten in a playoff over UM, OSU and even Penn St?

2024 fixes your arguement.

If you say wait. We should be 12, not 13. We went 9-3. More than likely you were not beating 1 through 4 anyway.

The playoff teams should be the best four conference champions from the Power 5.

When is the last time an 0-12 team played in a CCG?
