Its so owners can triple dip revenue. Basically, all the NBA owners told the tv people that they had to overbid for the WNBA rights if they wanted to sniff the nba rights. So, if you are a greedy NBA owner, who also owns a WNBA franchise, it goes like this: You Get NBA money, WNBA TV Money, concessions on both, and, get this, since the WNBA loses money you can show a loss on that venture. This is legit the only reason the league exists at this point.

But the real answer is a mix of us hosting the Olympics in 1996 and wanting a path for women's basketball to dominate for decades, politics, and the NBA's image/reputation. It was never meant to make money.

In the 2024 reports, the average value of a WNBA franchise was $96 million. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were drafted in April, 2024. The very next year, that number soared to $269 million, which is 180.2 percent growth.

According to the 2026 numbers, the average value of a franchise is now $427 million. That's another significant increase of 58.7 percent. In this three-year span, revenue has also increased from $13 million to $31.5 million.

There are 10 times more TD threads about the WNBA than NBA, so the WNBA is obviously the most watched by old, conservative, white guys from Louisiana.

you do realize you just proved my point right? All of those values are inflated because access to the NBA is directly tied to the WNBA. Its all optics. and, because the WNBA has so much fake coverage on ESPN the advertisers have to pay more.
