It will still an impressive victory, especially defensively though.

Basically the only big 12 team who plays defense.

If you call missing the playoffs half the time well oiled, then I guess so?

They’ve been the most consistent program in my 23 years of following college football. Really the only bad year was the Luke fickell season. Aside from that, I can’t remember them losing more than 3 games. From cooper, to tressel and then Meyer, they’ve always been highly ranked.

the team got sloppier and Defense appalling until Michigan
I don't think that was because of Urban though. Between losing Bosa and only having one senior on three deep depth chart, naturally resulted in a mediocre defense. We knew that the losses to the NFL in the secondary would catch up sooner or later.

Cooper's last 2 season followed by Tressel's first season they ended up unranked. They also lost 4 games in 2004, but they finished ranked since after Troy Smith emerged from the Zwick-Smith QB battle and Ted Ginn became a focal point they became quite a potent offense, to go along with the solid defense that was the norm under Tressel.

True, and the media tried to sensationalize the Bosa departure for NFL Draft prep/rehab..and some talking heads tried to make a story.

We are. He needs a few more years at a lower program.

I was listening to espnU and xm radio and they stated that Oklahoma has only hired one head coach with head coaching experience and that was howard schenelbeger (spelling) I thought that was interesting

I have this funny feeling that Ohio State is getting this wrong. I really do. Its not that i don't believe in Ryan Day. It is just too soon. This is like giving a 16 year old keys to a Lamborghini! Meanwhile, a coach by the name of Luke Fickell, comes to town next year, week 2 and i have a funny feeling Ohio State is going down. Fickell is Ohio born and bred. He played for Ohio State, coached at Ohio State and is a Buckeye through and through. You can bet he has this game circled on his calendar. I mean, he doesn't even get an interview? He took over a struggling Cincinnati program and went from 4-9 in year one, to 10-2 in year two. In my opinion, that game is going to be huge for Ryan Day. If Luke Fickell comes into Ohio Stadium and hands Ryan Day a loss. The heat will turn up almost immediately. Keep your eye on this game.

Fickell had the opportunity. He had that deer in the headlights look the entire season. He's a great Buckeye and I hope the best for him but that ship has sailed.

Fickell is a great Buckeye, but he went 6-7. Right or wrong, he had his shot and didn't come through.

Wait, you both are giving him grief for a year in which was utter chaos??? The program was under NCAA sanctions. Vacated scholarships, bowl bans and complete uncertainty. Everything considered, going 6-7 was a hell of a job!!! Do you think Ryan Day could have gone 6-7 with all of that going on? Have some perspective. Again, what if Luke Fickell goes into Ohio Stadium and beats Ryan Day? You cant tell me, at that point that you wont be concerned.

Just one more thing, Fickell took a bunch of Ohio State coaches with him to Cincinnati and our defense hasn't been the same since they all left. Just sayin...

I find it interesting that out of the five full-time head coaches Ohio State's had since 1951, none of them were first-time head coaches before taking the job. In fact, all of them had been head coaches for at least five years. Ohio State's been successful for all of these years by hiring proven head coaches. That's why I and a lot of other people were surprised that they didn't at least explore the Matt Campbell option. He's the type of coach that Ohio State's been hiring for the last 70 years.

I know Ohio State is a cult but the way their fans are sucking this guy off with no questions asked is weird.

I think he'd have done better. Look at the job he did through fall camp and the first quarter of the season, and likely more than we even know the rest of the way, with everything going on this year.

What if we beat them 80-0? Your question is silly, and it's certainly not a valid one when selecting the next coach at Ohio State.

Worry about your own program and how Jimmy Sleepover is going to figure out how to beat us now that Urban won't be on the sidelines.

I think the difference is most OSU fans who really saw what was going on knew Day was going to be the next HC. I said it to be people in September. Urban was going to leave and Day was taking over unless he had taken a HC job before that.

I was made comfortable with the fact 4 months ago, so when it happens I'm not all of a sudden going to be questioning it now. I was questioning it in September when I knew it was going to happen; I was happy with the small sample I saw

There's no way to know if a guy is going to be a national championship or even B1G winning coach. No way you can know that no matter how good a guy looks as a HC at a smaller place.

No one would have seen Saban as a 5 time champ during his time at MSU. He was basically a.500 coach there. Dabo was a WR coach for about 5 years then basically took over and has been dynamite. Riley took over an OU program with no prior pedigree, while Herman took a 2 year longer route and was a good HC at Houston before getting his job at TX.

There are a lot of routes, and all can be successful or duds. I mean Kiffen was handed the keys to a Bentley at USC and Tennessee at a very young age and blew it. He's still getting it back together almost a decade later

Not just an FCS school, but one that offers no scholarships. Not even sure how that is allowed.
