Why didn't OSU want to interview top notch coaches?

Day has 3 games of coaching experience. Just because he won the 3 games doesn't make him a top candidate for a top 5 program. Who couldn't have won those games with osu's talent? I'm sure the other factor was the "players really like him." The players at LSU liked O as interim also. Was that the best hire? No

Gotta make sure all the shite Urban was covering up stays in house. Can't have any more pissed off assistants running around.

So you're admitting OSU is a top 5 job. First nice thing you've ever said about OSU

There are 5 active HCs in college football who have national titles, and 2 of them just became active in the last 2 weeks

Nick
Dabo
Jimbo
Mack
Les

Actually, aside from Nick, they all have strange first names

Meyer has said Day is the best OC he's ever had, and that includes Mullen and Herman. Those 2 are at the least pretty good HCs

Greg Schiano. He was more than qualified to coach Tennessee. Why would OSU skip over that kind of resume to promote a guy with 4 games of (interim) HC experience?

Well I mean there of course could have been a more long term process, but there wasn't someone proven beyond reproach that was going to make a splash

Campbell, maybe Fickell, hell one OSU fan brought up McCarthy (LOL)

Day may have a tough first couple years, but I think he is equipped to be a damn fine coach going forward. You can't predict national titles or conference titles, but I like his demeanor and the way his players play for him

The only viable ones to me on that list are:

Campbell
Venables
Stoops

I think there is something wrong with Venables. He should have gone 5 years ago for a HC job and hasn't.

I wouldn't have minded Babers getting a call. He seems to get a lot out of his Syracuse teams. Not great records but they are outclassed athletically often.

I just don't think a lot of those guys are really more proven for a big job than Day is. He's done it for a full fall training camp and 3 games. He already knows the entire strength team, the AD, the President, the last 2 football coaches, and the rest of the staff

I'll give you Dabo and Jimbo but how are Les and Mack any stranger than Nick?

Campbell and stoops would be my top 2 on that list ( I don't trust kiffin and Herman too much)
And Venables said he's waiting for the right team to ask him. I'm sure OSU would persuade him

Really?

I haven't heard many Les or Macks in my day...a lot more Nicks

It could be a geographic thing though. Actually, if I had to guess that may be it.

Hey I’m glad y’all didn’t go after Campbell. He’s an Ohio guy and would jump on that job. That’s the one job we were scared about.
