So why do we always have to make it a race thing

What a random question to ponder.

He was an offensive coordinator for only 1 yr at Stanford prior to climb the head coach ranks. Was he really the offensive mind behind his teams? Just asking?
Jim Caldwell comes to mind. Hue Jackson?

This thread reminded me of an article I read a few years back.
Denver Post
quote:
“I had a white coach tell me once, ‘If you go to the defensive side of the ball, you’ll be a head coach quick,’ ” said Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn. “You have it, but you have to go to defense. So, everybody knows.”
quote:
If you’re a young black assistant coach looking to someday become a coordinator or head coach, you stand a much better chance if you move to the defensive side of the ball. That’s because the most direct path to NFL advancement on offense is coaching quarterbacks, a position black assistants rarely get.
quote:
110 of the 147 offensive coordinator jobs (74.8 percent) filled since 2007, not counting coaches hired on an interim basis, went to a former NFL and/or college quarterbacks coach.
Of those 110 jobs, five went to black coaches (4.5 percent) and three of the five went to the same black coach, Hue Jackson, now Cleveland’s head coach

Green spent years learning from the greatest offensive mind ever.
quote:
Green got a major break when Stanford coach Bill Walsh hired him to be his running backs coach. Every pupil needs a mentor, and Walsh became Green's. "I was looking for a minority when I interviewed Denny," says Walsh. "But that isn't why I hired him. I hired him because he's so articulate and because he's a joy to be around. Another thing that is appealing is that he doesn't relate everything to race. He's been able to cast off that mantle."

Kris Richard is secondary coach and passing game coordinator I think. Very interesting.
