Yeah I do recall that but I was certain Ritchey won one of those. Looking back now it looks like I may be conflating the win by the XP in OT as Ritchey winning that game. The pitfalls of getting old

Widely regarded as the best ever, but several other teams have a legitimate argument.

i almost had the pleasure of coaching against dangerfield that year. saw them plenty. they played 16 games and had more yards in penalties than they gave up defensively.

I’ve never heard of this team. What year and level was this?

That Dangerfield team was 3A in Texas in 1983. Texas had 5 classifications at the time.

Daingerfield, TX went all year without its defense being scored on

If my memory serves me, Tuerlings Catholic went undefeated and un-scored-on during a regular season back in the early 80's. They lost to John Curtisbin the playoffs.

Can anyone corroborate this?

Won an all-timer against Acadiana in the semis and lost to an undefeated Zachary team you can argue shouldn't have made it that far in the first place.

We probably shouldn’t be discussing a team in the all time thread if they couldn’t win against someone who shouldn’t have been there.

Certainly didn't help that Bob Wynne was hurt, and then his backup was also hurt by the time we got to that game. Worst game of my life trying to block Brian West that night.

Only true believers from WM argue that.

I doubt Pontchatoula even makes the semis if DI and 5A had been combined.

Evangel in the late 90s, early 200s, consistently sent the most kids to D1 on scholarship. Set the record a time or 2. 96-99 They were literally unbeatable. I'd have loved to have seen the 98 Evangel West Monroe teams play. But, alas we had to wait till 99 and Evangel would win and go like 4-0 in title games and 7-1 or something like that overall in that time period. And WM was no slouch. John curtis avoided them both of course although Evangel managed to play them in 99 and win handily before putting in the youngsters and backups to finish out the game. Those Evangel teams were easily the best I've ever seen for close to 10 years. All the way through the John David Booty, Jacob Hester, Trent Taylor teams

That was a great Dangerfield team but not sure they could have beaten any of the Southlake Carroll teams of the early 2000's. I think they lost a single game in the 4 years that Todd Dodge coached them. That's no joke in Texas 5A.

I was at that wm vs evangel game in the dome. Andrew whitworth played for wm. That was a great game. Brock Berlin was known for his passing, but did a great job with the audibles. He took some hard hits from the rebels.
