I don’t think anyone from New Orleans or the entire state of Louisiana gives a shite about anyone named Manning

Every offensive skill position has a pretty clear answer:

QB: Marino by a country mile considering he's routinely in the discussion for greatest ever if you define the position by skill instead of team rings.

RB: Sanders

WR: Moss

Linebacker: Butkus

DL and DB you could argue over

I would say Jim Kelly. He took a team to four straight Super Bowls. Marino had one. Football is the sport where team accomplishments outweigh individual stats. Sure Marino has great numbers, but FB is different in that you have 11 guys on each side of the ball who have to be in sync. Hoops and hockey have 5. Baseball is unique as a team game where individual performance matters the most. You have a pitcher and a batter and when a ball is put in play you have 1 or 2 or at most 3 guys who have to be in sync on defense like a double play or caught fly ball or second to first groundout.

So I say Jim Kelly was the best QB to never win a Super Bowl. Four times he was there. Fran Tarkenton is second.

Johnny Unitas technically won one at the end of his career but he spent most of the game on the bench injured. He also won championships pre- Super Bowl.

I feel like you're contradicting yourself here.

Marino played 40 years too soon. He'd shatter so many damn passing records in 2026.

Jim Kelly had much better supporting casts than Marino, for the most part.

Or Calvin Johnson, he played nine years no ring but in hall of fame.

I say it's Jim Kelly.

And a side note, Moon was wildly overrated.

I'm guessing it's an extrapolation of the idea that winning matters most. So if Tom Brady is the GOAT because he won the most Super Bowls, then the guy with the most Super Bowl appearances without winning must be the GOAT of that category?

Can't say I agree with that logic, mostly because I don't subscribe to the notion that winning the most Super Bowls means someone is the best. But if that's not the argument then I don't know what the hell he's talking about.

Really good list. Tarkenton may have been the best of those 70’s QBs. Think he is up there with Staubach and better than Bradshaw and Snake.
