I can't help but have Earl Campbell come to mind first.

LINK

Derrick Thomas and Herschel Walker come to mind too.

Begrudgingly, Cam deserves mention too. McFadden does as well.

Tebow:
-88 TD/16 INT
-66.4 completion %, 170.8 QB rating
-9285 passing yards (9.3 Y/A)
-57 rushing TD
-2947 rushing yards
-Heisman/2NC

FIFY - I know Tebow didn't start in '06, but no way UF beats us that year without him. He was still a huge contributor.

The correct answer to any best player in football history is always Barry Sanders.

damn straight

ETA:

In addition to total rushing yards, Sanders set 33 other NCAA records in 1988, including:

Most TDs (39) and most rushing TDs (37) (note: in '88, his 5 bowl game TDs didn't count)
Most points scored (234)
Most 300+ yard games in a season/career (4)
Most all-purpose yards in a season (3,249) and per-game (295.5; this record was 50 years old, held by Byron "Whizzer" White)

I've been watching college football since 94 so I'll only list players ive watched.....

Absolute best- reggie bush. Runner up adrian Peterson. 3rd is vince young. Cam newton gets an incomplete grade just because he only played one season(probably best single season ive seen)

Best career- tebow or leinart with wuerffel close behind. Leinart had the benefit of playing with the most talented offense in college football history. Tebow had a ton of talent around him as well. Tebow obviously more versatile than leinart. I'd still take a vince young or newton over tebow to qb my team.

Bush is the most unique talent, ive never seen anybody with his speed and elusiveness

Some incredible talents listed.
Cam - agree, he really needed to have played more to be in the conversation but IMO his '10 season was the greatest single season.

Vince - best clutch and dominance performance in a single game vs USC in the '05 BCSCG.

Didn't read the thread but pat white was an amazing college player. I'd put him ahead of Vince young. Also McNair was pretty amazing against weak comp.

It's Barry sanders. He had the greatest season of any player. He had 4 games of 300 yards rushing. He ended the season with 2800 yards rushing

Biased but Walker was the most dominant player. Barry Sanders and Tebow are up there though.
