I won't say I don't care, but I think it's pretty pointless to follow too closely. High school kids can change their mind so quickly, and it's hard to really know how good everyone will turn out to be. Don't get me wrong, I'll certainly pay attention to where teams are on signing day, but I won't be following any recruits decision making process before that.

Me. I think it's preposterous to care about where a HS senior is goin to commit to.

I pretty much tune in the last week before signing day and that's about it. It helps know who the players are when the season starts.

I think college football is much more similar to the NFL when it comes to the coverage. Both are oversaturated and the media coverage is now overkill with recruiting. I agree it's pretty pathetic how closely some middle age and older adults fawn over college recruits.

Many of the same people that get off on National Signing Day make fun of us that still enjoy watching high school football games.

I don't see anything wrong with loving High School Football. I love the talent in some states like Louisiana, Texas, Miss, Florida, Cali. Great athletes.
But on the recruiting, some people actually get PISSED when a kid change their mind or sign with another school. Heard of kids getting emails, letters in the mail, nasty tweets, etc from ADULTS. That's sad.

I turn the TV on today just to see where some big names are going and what schools are doing good. It's pretty pointless to invest time in the decisions that a bunch of unproven high school kids make.
I have a buddy who works for Rivals and he said the worst part of his job is having to call HS kids on a regular basis and try and get them to tell him there plans.

THIS. But the sad part is....there is a market for that info. Count me out.

You should really get out more.
While that play was a bad call, you can not say it changed the out come of the game. If you were going to fix a game is that how you would do it? If so, you are dense.

It's turned into an over-hyped media whore fest. Using 17/18 year olds to sell advertising time to corporations.

but a bunch of grown arse men following 17 and 18 year olds' lives AND 22 and 23 year old lives...it's pretty creepy
the people that interact with the recruits on twitter or FB are creepy. I follow recruiting, I know the names of players, I don't get worked up about any 1 player, but it's fun to follow.
For those of you that don't care, why do you care that others do?

On the other hand, I get really sick of the arrogant and hypocritical attitude of NFL fans who have no interest in college football browbeating college fans for following recruiting when they live and die with the NFL Draft and jock sniff all the incoming pro prospects.
See I can't stand all the local rednecks here in Alabama who taunt me for liking the NFL more than college football. They really make themselves look stupid with their Bear Bryant full back tattoos. Or how about the one idiot who signed with Alabama who has an Auburn tattoo on his arm?

This describes myself. I follow it very casually and would never get worked up over a recruit's decision. I follow it even less the last 3 or 4 years because with Saban at Alabama it's become anti-climatic (sp?) as an Alabama fan.
My earlier point about NFL followers looking down on followers of college recruiting wasn't a denial that a lot of recruiting followers are jock sniffing losers, it's that they somehow think jock sniffing a 22 year old is any better. I also think people that play fantasy football are at least as pathetic as those who live and die with college football recruiting.

did you just admit to being a recruiting hipster?

i can't speak for others who don't care, but i don't care that people care about recruiting...it's america, do as you please. i just find it to be a waste of time to care about fickle teenagers' decisions. but then again, one could logically argue that sports in general are a waste of time, so who am i to judge
eta: i figured this title would attract more people who DO care than who didn't (which it seems about a 50-50 split so far), which was kind of the point...i wanted to see why they do care.

They "taunt" you for liking the NFL? How does that work? Do they stand around you pointing fingers at you laughing for liking the Saints? That's interesting considering there are TONS of Saints fans here in the Mobile area.
They shouldn't be "taunting" you for liking the NFL. Having said that, the "taunting" is usually a defensive response from them to arrogant NFL fans looking down their noses at them for liking college football more than the NFL.

its pretty common in Alabama. And not only that, but people shite on you all the time if you don't have a strong rooting interest in either their beloved Alabama Crimson Tide or Auburn Tigers. It really is annoying as hell.
for years, I heard a lot of shite from both of them because I liked the NFL more. I mean I could handle the ribbing for being a Saints fan because they were terrible most of the time when I was growing up. But all the other bullshite was uncalled for. The people in this state take the game way to seriously.
I casually watch South Alabama's young program and can be satisfied with that.
