No myth just change up gameplan, Saban did and crush it, same ole smashmouth football in rematch didn’t work at all, Saban had a counter for same stuff LSU ran in 1st game, that’s what I’m talking about, he didn’t change anything with gameplan, granted Bama shouldn’t had rematch to begin with, that was BS

To what? We couldn’t block them. What game plan do you want that doesn’t involve blocking?

honestly think it might have been 2019 Ohio State.

Yeah, that team was awesome. Ohio State’s had some really great teams that didn't win it. 2015 and 98 were also arguably the most talented teams in their respective years

Got jobbed by a replay ref in Tuscaloosa on the scoop and score late in the game. The Clemson receiver took four fricking steps with the ball firmly in his grasp. No, I'm not bitter about that call at all.

11 LSU has the best resume ever of a non champ. It’s not even close.

1983 Auburn is definitely close.

Lost to No. 3 Texas early in the season then blew out a 9 win (11 game season) Tennessee team in Knoxville and Florida State before finishing the season beating 5 straight top 15 teams (4 in the top 8).

Of course they are the rightful 1983 National Champions so don't really qualify for this thread.

I actually think 2 loss, 2002 USC, led by Carson Palmer, was the best team of the Pete C era at the end of that season, and would have steamrolled anyone. I watched them eviscerate the best Iowa team of all time, a team that destroyed nearly all its schedule and had a heisman finalist QB. If that were a playoff, they’d have been the 2024 Ohio State type. They were ridiculous everywhere.

If there were a Playoff, Pete Carroll would have Saban numbers of Natties. 6-1 in BCS Bowl games and blew everyone out at the end of year but for Texas.

The 1961 LSU team should be given some consideration. Dietzel once said the 61 Tigers were the best team he coached. They were 10-1, suffering an inexplicable season-opener loss to a mediocre Rice team.

The 1969 LSU team also could be considered the best one-loss team ever.

Gotta remember the only reason Nebraska 83 had a loss is because Osborne had brass balls and wanted to go undefeated. Could've easily kicked the XP and won the national championship.

1995 Florida. Set a bunch of records, unfortunately they had to play 1995 Nebraska.

Lost: 62-24

Being stopped at the goal line prevented LSU from going B2B in 1959. That was their lone loss before the bowl season. Bowl games didn't really matter back then

That and a chip shot field goal they missed. Yes, they suffered only that one loss during the regular season.

Yeah, they were peaking at the end of the year. They would've been a handful. Palmer to Williams was unstoppable.

Does the fact they had plenty of future pros change any results that took place on the field in 2002?

I thought the question was specifically about a one loss team that did not win NC?

I’d say that Miami team would fit that criteria.

I agree they did not win the NC.

I also think the 1983 Auburn and Nebraska teams were great.

Bama 1977.

I’m sire there are many who could make a case.
