If your goal is to win NCs ( for both I know, but bear with me), then IMO it's Nebraska. Yes you have a massively long and hard uphill battle but at least they possess the capability to be a superpower eventually

Wisconsin has a ceiling that is below winning a NC. But the job will be cushier, the fans will be pleased with less, and it's in a better starting spot. Far better job.

If Nebraska’s expectations are too high for canning Pelini, then Wisconsin’s expectations are too high as well. Chryst never made a fool of himself off the field either like Pelini did.

Scott Frost got to start a 5th season at Nebraska without ever making a bowl game. The narrative that Nebraska has ridiculous expectations is tired and false nowadays

Your point about NIL money being more available at Nebraska is a good one.

But Wisconsin does have more regional talent (in state and across the border in Chicago) and a three times larger in state population.

The Chryst versus Pellini comparison also needs to be a relative success metric. Pellini was more successful than the coaches before and after at Nebraska. Chryst was less successful than the coaches before him at Wisconsin.

On the Cover 3 podcast they said they asked a number of coaches which is the better job.

All said Wisconsin.

Nebraska will do anything. ANYTHING to be successful again. So even if they have to cheat, lower academic standards and ask boosters to do dishonest things they will have an advantage. Nebraska is the school of Prop 48s and partial qualifiers and "strength and conditioning" program.

Nebraska is the better job.

Wisconsin by a good amount.

The pieces are still in place for success at Wisconsin, I still basically view the Big10 west as theirs to lose. Upper Midwest isn’t TX or GA but there’s still a good recruiting base there for their style.

Nebraska is a total rebuild job.

I hate Nebraska but why do people keep saying it's in the middle of nowhere and there are no people? Do people not even look at maps? Omaha and Lincoln are practically merged at this point and both are large cities. Kansas City is just down the road. Oklahoma City is 6 hours away. Nebraska has plenty to offer and access to solid Midwest and Plains football recruits from HS that still play FB and believe in Friday Night Lights.

That said, I'd take freaking Madison every day if the weak. Great town and UW is the school in a state that produces solid football players. Chicago right down the road too.

Wisconsin and it isn’t close by any stretch of the imagination.

Wisconsin has an identity that dates back to the George H.W. Bush administration. They’ve stuck with it and they’ve won a lot with it.

Nebraska is a shitshow and doesn’t know what it wants to be. Since Solich they’ve tried outsiders (Callahan and Riley), former staffers with deep program ties (Pelini), and a favorite son (Frost).

But none of those guys are good coaches. A focused Urban Meyer could turn them around, though.

Relative to Nebraska, where expectations are completely out of touch, maybe Wisconsin fans will be pleased with less, but rest-assured this move was brought by fan discontent and boosters. Those behind the scenes know the landscape of which CFB is moving, and PC failed to adapt time-and-time again. That is not the sign of a fan base that is "pleased with less." There are very clear signs from the AD and donors that this program needs to modernized. As an example, many are excited about the $300M facility where 'The Shell' currently sits. Construction supposed to start in December 2023. Wisconsin's current practice facility is a joke.

This is not even debatable.

Nebraska is fighting with the Iowa's and Iowa St's.

As long as Barry Alvarez is the AD Wisconsin is not the best job because he insists on heavy run style of football and the game has changed and Alvarez has not.

Because it's easy to get 5 star WR/DBs to play at Wisconsin, right?

Wisconsin is a factory for huge, Scandinavian offensive linemen. Any coach who tried to get away from what they do best would basically look exactly like Scott Frost at Nebraska.

Wisconsin....especially in the NIL era. Wisconsin is already a more consistent program, is in a bigger city and has access to the Chicago and Milwaukee markets. Nebraska's program is currently terrible, is in the middle of nowhere and has nothing to offer recruits in the NIL era. Going to be a tough tough battle to bring Nebraska back to elite status.

I disagree. The players don't really give a shite about the "market" when it comes to NIL. ALL that matters is how much the "school" is willing to pay them. College Station, while somewhat close to Houston, isn't exactly a desirable, or at least a more desirable "market" than Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta. Yet, A&M was able to sign top players from those areas. Why? Because their boosters had the desire to do what is necessary to get top players.

For decades Nebraska was a powerhouse in college football. The passion of the fanbase is there. It is really the only sport in the state. So IF the boosters decided to get fully involved they could generate enough money to make Lincoln NE a desirable place for players. Would it cost more to get them there vs places like Austin, TX, Los Angeles, etc? Probably. But a big part of being successful in the NIL era is the WANT to be successful in the NIL era.

A&M obviously has a ton of money. But that really wouldn't matter if they didn't have fanatical boosters with a tremendous desire to make A&M a championship program. I think Nebraska is more apt to want to go "all in" if that's what it takes than Wisconsin.

Wisconsin has never been to the "top of the mountain". Their fans don't know what it is like. Thus, there is no true burning desire to do whatever it takes to get there. Nebraska has been to the top of the mountain. You have to know the fans/booster who experienced those decades of dominance are sick watching their program become a "has been". Desperate people to desperate things...such as dump a ton of money into getting great football players. Nebraska is more apt to be desperate to get there than Wisconsin.

Madison over Lincoln in a heartbeat. Wisconsin can also still recruit Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/ St. Paul Metro Area.
