So you think a Lakers team strapped with a top 3 contract in 5-6 years when Luka is into his 30’s will be better positioned than a team with payroll flexibility?

I’m a Luka fan. Most of us are. But we’ve seen his game now for years. He is a highlight reel offensive player and volume shooter. Those players don’t win championships these days because their individual contracts don’t allow their team to build around them. Tatum, Joker, et all could get more but they know they’d lose. Luka is gonna demand bank which the Lakers will pay because that’s what the Lakers do, but it’s also why they aren’t title contenders for years, albeit the fake season.

The future will reveal the truth. But right now, Luka wasn’t winning a title with the Mavs and he won’t be winning any titles with the Lakers any time soon because both teams aren’t seriously constructed to win but to sell tickets (which the Mavs gave up for the short term).

Luka will get the max with LA. But it's 110 mil less than what Dallas could have given him. He will get around $230M for 4 years. That is a bargain for a top 3 player in his prime.

Meanwhile, the Mavs will have one, maybe two decent seasons IF everyone is healthy. But still won't even sniff a title. Then they will be a bottom 5 franchise into the 2030s.

Lakers won this trade a million times over.

But is he really a top 3 player? That’s the point. The Lakers are about to cash strap themselves for a one dimensional player. The Mavs decided he isn’t a top 3 player. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lakers don’t sign him after seeing him up close. At some point the Lakers will want to move on from the Lebron circus and start over, I’m not sure if they’ll see Luka as leading them to the next generation. I’m a Luka fan because he is fun to watch on half the court but if I owned a team I wouldn’t want to make him my cornerstone for what I’d have to pay him.

Lol you keep saying you're a Luka fan, but if you are you sure are a shitty one.....you're getting way off into the weeds here. There is no metric imaginable where the Mavs won this trade. That is the point. The point is not whether or not Luka is a top 3 player.

He’s a top 5 offensive player but he’s a bad defender. Teams will hunt him in the playoffs. They’re getting the Warriors or Timberwolves Round 1. Good luck to the Lakers trying to stop Curry/Butler/Anthony Edwards when they get Luka switched into defending one of them. There’s no rim protection because Anthony Davis is gone and the Mark Williams trade fell through.

I agree. This stuff about who won the trade is silly. Neither the Mavs nor Lakers are/were winning anything with Luka because their rosters are not good enough to win. At least now, the Mavs can move on from the “re-signing” him melodrama that would have been their entire 2026 season, Meanwhile, the Lakers are just happy to go from star to star being mediocre and will spend all next season dealing with the Lebron/Luka soap opera. I expect the Mavs to rebound quite nicely.

Kytie is out until after the all star break next season. Will be too late to make a difference.

Lakers won't win it all this season...but next year, in Lebrons likely last season...I wouldn't be surprised if they win the title.

That roster isn’t winning a title. Too many talented teams in front of them with more complete rosters with younger players getting better. It will be fun to watch since that is all we’ll see on ESPN. I’m looking forward to the soap opera.

Any person who actually thinks the Mavs won this trade needs their head examined.

The Lakers are now in contention for a title for the next decade.

The Mavs are in a 5-7 year rebuilding mode at the minimum. The entire franchise has to start over from scratch due to this trade.

You are being ridiculous. Luka cooked the Wolves last year and has already shown a playoff level that is another gear. Jimmy Butler got nothing for Luka Doncic. The guy has been dominating since 13 years old. I dunno if he will ever win a title but he’s a bonafide superstar and it hard to imagine taking a handful of players over him in any situation. Jokic and Tatum at this point.

Good gracious. Talk about an instant society. How do you know the Lakers will even sign Luka? They are not any better positioned to win a title in the next 5 years today than they were before the trade. And Dallas did not make the trade to get better today. They made the trade to dump a player and the drama that would have come with next season.

Luka is a draw because of his offensive game so fans are pissed the major draw of Dallas sports fans is gone. Who cares. Fans are fickle and will be back when they start winning. In a few weeks Luka, Lebron, and Nico will all be on vacation and preparing for next season. The Mavs will be just fine.

Nico literally said the Mavs are in "win now" mode and acquired AD because "defense wins championships". His exact words.

Obviously it was horseshite that even they didn't really believe but that was the narrative.

I think, and hope, you are trolling...if not maybe basketball isn't your thing.

That Mavericks defense last season was good once they got PJ Washington and Gafford. The West didn’t have any great teams so they were able to hide Kyrie and Luka on defense until they faced Boston. Boston destroyed Luka on switches.

Did people not watch the NBA Finals last year? Luka was exposed defensively.

Can you blame the Mavs for not wanting to pay this guy $345 million? As excellent as he is on offense he’s as equally bad defensively when it matters in the playoffs against elite offensive teams.

EVERYONE picked the Clippers to beat the Mavs. They didn’t. Then EVERYONE picked the Thunder to beat the Mavs. They didn’t. Then EVERYONE picked the Wolves to beat the Mavs. They didn’t. Luka won those 3 series despite not having home court advantage in a single one. If the west was so “weak” why weren’t the Mavs favored in a single series? Why didn’t any of those other teams “target” Luka? Then they played the Celtics, a GREAT team who were better than Dallas at every position except one, and they lost badly. There is no team in the NBA who could have beaten the Celtics last year. So I didn’t watch your little highlight link, because I’ve already seen it. The Mavs lost the worst trade in NBA history, and if you keep on I’ll be convinced you’re either trolling or retarded.
